Lately I only study art history books. I have loved Barbara Kingsolver's Prodigal Summer, Karl Hiaason's books, The English Patient and A Prayer for Owen Meany.

This is tough because I always forget the titles...

I paint every day and love it. I have a studio/gallery that is in a very public place so I get to paint and talk all day long. It's a great life. www.alisonvernon.com

My family, walks in the woods, birds at our feeders, Boston Museum of Fine Art, red wine in the evening, canoeing in marshes, chocolate..

Weak coffee.

Hiking, canoeing, bird-watching.

It must be very cool to have your own gallery and paint with that ambience all around you.  The gallery to which I'm a member...that one is also artist/owner.   I love the excitement and creative energy that abounds in her place.  I wish I could spend more time there - she also has room for artists to come and paint, but I have reasons that I have to stay tied to my home studio to work.  Actually, to be truthful, I need solitude to paint.  It doesn't bother you to have people around?  Do you have to do much advertising and promotion to draw visitors?  Are you involved in your local area artists associations?

Thank you for viewing my new site and for the nice comments!  I work mainly in acrylics, and those complex pieces can take quite awhile...just making color decisions is time consuming!  But, it's a lot of fun and very rewarding.  How long have you been painting fulltime?  Do you own your own gallery?  I like the complements you used in the painting with the blues and oranges.  Color evokes so many emotions, depending upon how it's manipulated.  Have a great day.

I admire your skill with the palette knife. The emotions you experienced recording these scenes come through to the viewer. Snow and cold makes us glad to work in the studio doesn't it? jbradley

Nice work Alison.  Thank you for your comment on my work. I used Scratchboard on the black & white and Tempera & INk on the Tiger. The Ship and water was done on the computer. I take most of my pictures for reference.

Hi Alison,

I just looked at your website make over. Looks good! I see that your works are right there on your first page after the click in. I think that is a wonderful idea too. Don't give them a chance to go without seeing your beautiful work. Also, the "about me" link nicely planned. First click they get to know you as a person and then click more to get more detailed information, I like it.

Great job on the re-design and your work. Good luck overseas. I'll be checking in. Keep us updated.

All the best,

Jen
