My number one favorite musician is Peter Gabriel, however I listen to quite a variety of music from classical to jazz, some other favorites are Annie Lennox, Indigo Girls, Paul Scwartz ARIA and ARIA 2, Julia Othmer I could go on and on...

I am currently reading Jack White's books about how to make a living as an artist-they are wonderful. You can download them from www.senkarikstuff.com if you don't have them already.

The Wizard of Oz is my favorite.

I have been practicing art from the moment I could pick up a pencil. Painting and drawing is my lifelong passion. I love the energy I get from the act of creating. I have just returned from the Artexpo NYC 2008 and it was great experience! I made some sales and I was picked up by a gallery in Marblehead, Massachusetts. I made lots of new contacts who I have been and will be following up with for the coming weeks! My beach scenes were a big hit! Check out my website www.heatherrippert.com

I love your work, so serene.  Good luck with your endeavor with EXPO - that's awesome!  I read one of Jack White's books, it was very motivating and had a lot of great advice.  Keep up the great work.

Your paintings remind me of visits to the Carolina coast. Pleasant, warm memories. Good luck with your expo. Thanks for your comments on my work.

It's freezing cold here in Memphis as I write this, and I could literally see myself walking down the sandy path to the beach, the warm sand sliding between my toes, the sound of the seagulls in the distance, the wind through the grasses, and of course the crash of the waves.  You paint a very realistic picture and I wish I was there.

thanks for the friend invite

Your artwork is amazing. I love the light, the perspective everything. You are very talented! thanks for the comment about the mayan faces.  You nailed the meaning of it.  I am excited about frida coming to Philly, I am planning my trip while the exhibition is there.  I am glad you had the opportunity to visit Mexico, it's a very special country, with bad and good like everywhere else.  I am currently doing my masters on humanities with concentration in Mexican socio-political issues.

You have some great watercolors... I really like "Surfs Up" and the piece with the fence. Great work.

Thanks also for your kind words...

I noticed you are reading Jack Whites book. I met him back in the 80's here in Dallas. He is really a very interesting guy. No mater who you are he treats you with respect. I always liked that about him.

Your watercolors are so vibrant! I guess the next time I try watercolor, I should step up a brand from Crayola, huh? LOL...just kidding. I have some Winsor and Newton WCs...your art inspires me to get outside and paint...perhaps I will be able to later this year. I feel in a bit of a rut. I appreciate your kind comments, and thank you for the heads up on Jack White's books at www.senkarikstuff.com - I do enjoy his articles in Art Calendar. Have a great night and thanks again.

Hi Heather,

I always send out a press release to the local papers before I do a show.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  I also got lucky and a writer saw one of my shows on his own and that led to some coverage.  Magazines often ask for submissions, so I also hit them up whenever applicable.  If it's a juried competition, they will automatically cover you if you win, so that's a plus.  There are also "exhibitions-in-print" such as New American Paintings and Studio Visit Magazine.  They are juried as well, no prize money, but you get published and they send out copies to galleries and collectors.  Studio Visit is having another competition which I believe is due March 31st.

Oh, also you never know who might publish something about your work from a show, etc.  I've done google searches and found press coverage from other states concerning shows I participated in.  Sometimes the galleries fail to mention these things to you, so be sure to ask.  I hope this helps.

Hi Rippert, Thank you for adding me to your friends. I think your seascapes will do well at ArtExpo especially since you are so close. Have you attended it before?

Warm Regards, David

Thanks!  I admire those who can handle watercolor in a realistic fashion.  To me it is just too squirrelly.  I do some with it but usually in many layers.  Are you a Charles Burchfield fan?

As for Jack, he has some good advice, but his last article about ebay was a crock of longhorn droppings.  I see it as a real wasteland, but wouldn't mind if that was my big sales break.
