John Prine, Mark Knopfler, all the old 60's bands, classical

My favorite contemporary author is James Lee Burke. His characterization is gripping, and his prose so beautiful it brings tears to your eyes. I have read every one of his novels. I also love entertaining reads by Vince Flynn, Nelson DeMille, and others in this genre. Other excellent authors are Jim Harrison and Pat Conroy. I enjoy reading about the brain and about how we learn. Great books that fit this category are Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman and Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. Both are fascinating. Finally, the book of all books - the Bible.

I rarely make time to go to the movies. I have loved 'It's a Wonderful Life' for years; the message is so powerful. I also enjoy movies that have beautiful scenery. I am not able to travel very much but am such a visual person that I feast on these kinds of movies.

I recently retired from a full time career as an English teacher at a charter school here in San Diego County. I am not good at marketing, so Art Calendar is a great resource as I try to learn how to promote my work. My favorite part of the Art Calendar magazine is articles by Jack White; I look forward to each of his wise and inspiring articles.
I have sold paintings, mainly southwestern portraits of Indians which I still love to do. I consider myself a Western artist. I am currently doing commission work, mainly children's portraits. I have worked in most mediums but am currently working mainly in pastel. I have also recently completed a large watercolor and also a small oil painting, so I have been branching out a bit. My subject remains paintings of figures and faces.

Hi Lucinda,

You have a wonderful talent at capturing the life of your subject in their eyes.  Great work.

Hi lucinda, you left me a comment a month ago and, well lets just say april was a terrible no good very bad month, with a lot of growth and learning. Anyway, thank you for your comment. I want to tell you that your work has a great depth of emotion and character. "native son" and " through all trials" have great power in their imagery. It's something I am trying to get into my work, so seeing how you do it is very inspirational. Thank you

Annoyingnoise, soon to change names, I hope.

Yes, Wild at Heart is the very book you described! It is OK to dream and to be yourself, in fact it is good. As C.S. Lewis pointed out in Mere Christianity, the more we surrender ourselves to Jesus Christ, a phenomenal thing happens–the more our true selves we become! Thank you also for your encouraging words on my work!

Nice work Lucinda! I especially like Native Son. When I look at it I feel like I know him, I get a sense of familiarity. It makes me wonder: what is he looking at? What is he thinking about?

Thanks for you nice comments on my blog a week or so ago.  I actually didn't do it all myself but mainly used one of the templates provided.  It does take a bit of time to understand how to do things but if you have a play around I am sure you will get the hang of it.

Great to see your portraits.  I'm just going to take another look at them.
