I am a painter and printmaker. My work is narrative in nature with close attention to abstract elements such as composition, texture and form. My interest in multi-cultural traditions, legends and folklore evolved into a personal mythology, constantly developing, and expressed in an array of art images and materials. I earned MA in art from Columbia University, New York City, NY, and MFA in Studio Arts from California State University, Los Angeles. My prints and paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the country and abroad, received many awards and were featured in numerous solo shows. I was published in several newspapers and magazines, including In Michiana, The George Washington University Literary Review, and Chicago BAC Journal.

Hi Lea,  Thanks for the visit. Your comment about variations on a musical theme was uniquely insightful as the aesthetic roots of my work are very much grounded in that type of thinking.

Your work is exceptional. The strength of the aesthetic is in no way sacrificed for the sake of the narrative which in turn deepens the experience of the piece. Considering your work it's ironic that you found my site as I've recently been studying the origin and structure of folk tales as a means to add a greater narrative depth to my work. I also love what you've done with the book of poetry/images at your website. This is a type of project I've wanted to do myself.

Regards, Matt

HI Lea,

Hi Lea!

Thank you for your input on the copyright issues.  In answer to your question on trompe l'oeil...this is a type of (usually, but not always) hyper-realistic painting that is meant to "fool the eye."  Many muralists use this technique to create the look of 3-D objects on a 2-D surface.  Painters that work in small scale often use collections of small objects to produce trompe l'oeil works.  Here is a website for some trompe l'oeil painters:   www.trompeloeilsociety.com

and one on the history:

 ArtLex on Trompe l'Oeil

 ENJOY!
