Thanks for your comments about my outdoor sketch.  You say that you like my "loose application of Paint" and believe me, that is nice to hear.  For most of my painting life I have painted with painstaking detail, using very tiny flat brushes.  Now I'm trying something different- to finish a painting in one session.  This guideline really speed me up, loosens me up and makes me focus on only the most important information.  It's fun, too.

Hi JohnnyGold,

Well, I always add the text afterwards, on top of the painting. I actually print it on a big label sheet, cut all the black out and stick it on the painting and paint the words in...

Personally I love letters & words in art... not sure where that came from..

Mr. Gold-
I see that you added more paintings to your gallery. They look great.  Do you have anymore? I know you do. Write me and let me know when you are off work next. Ain't this site great!!!!!!

Oh man, I hit the button too fast. I really like your color sense. It will serve you well painting out doors.

Cheers, David

Hi Johnny, Thank you for checking out my work and the kudos’ sir. Plein air painting is as you described, mind blowing. I couldn’t do it for years until I learned some simple techniques for organizing the process. The best information I’ve found is from two British painters; David Curtis and Trevor Chamberlain. David Curtis has several DVD’s demonstrating his mastery. He still knocks me out although I now employ his techniques for outdoor painting. When I tried doing it again, I started with small canvas boards (6”x8”) and very simple scenes then built up from there. I now do a lot of small pochades (6”x8” color sketches) as field studies. I hope this info lights you up to do some work ‘out in the open air’.

Warm Regards, David
