I was born in Mexico City, Mexico during the 60’s. I studied Art at Wright State University. My life is full of experiences that have allowed me to develop as an artist. Being born in Mexico has embedded great fondness for what most people would label as morbid images. Mexican art is a mixture of pre-Hispanic images blended with the graphic, and sometimes terrifying, images of a bleeding and battered Jesus. The horrendous realities of constant war and political instability that the country experienced from 1810 to the 1930’s were the inspiration of many great artists. Some wanted to use their artistic abilities to attest to the brutal every day life in Mexico. Others used their art to express their political opinions. When I paint or create sculptures I see a fusion of influences from my native country. Jose Maria Velasco and his landscapes, Posada and his morbid sense of humor, Diego Rivera and his desire to show us the harsh reality of the life of the Mexican peasants oppressed by the bourgeoisie, and Frida Kahlo, who painted from the heart in order for us to sense her physical and psychological torture.

Art Supplies, books and Home depot.

My whole life is lived as a hobby. I enjoy every breath I take.

Hi Gabriela,

Thanks for the compliment on my Kitchen Altarpiece.  In reading your bio, I wanted to tell you my great-uncle and great-aunt lived in Mexico City (aunt still does).  My great-uncle's name was Fred Clapp -- he would have been painting at the time of Rivera and Kahlo though he was more of a traditionalist, with a touch of Rivera's title and palette. How long did you stay in Mexico City?

You're work is fascinating and I look forward to seeing more of it.

Gabriela, Thank you for stopping by my page!  I love your work !  I especially like the compositions of 'three's"  like, Burden and Carnival Day. I find them complete in all ways, and very satisfying!  They are the kind of art work that I will think about and want to revisit knowing I will see more and new interesting things than I saw the last time!  But my all time favorite is your quote about your Hobbies, on this page...What a WONDERFUl life you have!  You are a gift... Best, Sandy

Thank you for your kind words--I appreciate that.  Your work most definitely reflects your heritage--particularly the ones with a Dia de los muertos flavor to them.  Best of luck to you in your art career.

Best regards,

Steve

Gabrielle, thank you for the generous comment.  I enjoyed painting "NADIA" and it now hangs on "permanent" (until sold) display at a Cafe in Trenton, New Jersey.  I don't recall whether I have written you before, but I certainly remember your work and contemplating writing you about it.  I see you have added the penetrating bust of "Che" to your collection.  Excellent.  Powerful.
