I was born in Mexico City, Mexico during the 60’s. I studied Art at Wright State University. My life is full of experiences that have allowed me to develop as an artist. Being born in Mexico has embedded great fondness for what most people would label as morbid images. Mexican art is a mixture of pre-Hispanic images blended with the graphic, and sometimes terrifying, images of a bleeding and battered Jesus. The horrendous realities of constant war and political instability that the country experienced from 1810 to the 1930’s were the inspiration of many great artists. Some wanted to use their artistic abilities to attest to the brutal every day life in Mexico. Others used their art to express their political opinions. When I paint or create sculptures I see a fusion of influences from my native country. Jose Maria Velasco and his landscapes, Posada and his morbid sense of humor, Diego Rivera and his desire to show us the harsh reality of the life of the Mexican peasants oppressed by the bourgeoisie, and Frida Kahlo, who painted from the heart in order for us to sense her physical and psychological torture.

Art Supplies, books and Home depot.

My whole life is lived as a hobby. I enjoy every breath I take.

Hi Gabriela,  Thanks for the nice compliment on "Exposed, Vulnerable and Inadequate.  And, the nice compliment on my work in general.  It's so nice to hear that you think I capture the personality of the people in my paintings.  Karen

You do some great work, yourself. I especially liked "Burden" and the skull painting reminds me of the day of the dead celebration in Mexico.

The couple of pieces that I diplay are Pastel.  Yes I am in the US Air Force, now for 10 years. Hey I grew up in Mexico also.  I understand what you mean when you say "great fondness for what most people would label as morbid images".

Thanks, Gabriela.  I had been driving by that spot for several days without my camera.  I finally went back late one afternoon and took lots of pictures and I am so glad I did.  The next time I went by the fields had been mown and everything looked so different!  I've done a couple of paintings from those photos, but so far have only posted this one.

Gracias Gabriela - I too am very happy with my latest landscape "Ledbetter Rains". You asked how large it is: it's  11x22" (approximately) on birch. I have really gotten to like painting on panel. Good luck with your many artistic ventures! - Jared
