For my day job I'm the Art Director at a television station in Las Vegas. It's great to get paid to do something I would be doing anyway...After my wife & kids go to bed at night I paint - often into the wee hours.

Recently my subject matter has been masks. I have a large collection of masks and decided to start creating "portraits" of them. Come see more of my work at www.donmichaeljr.com.

Painting, Reading, attending Concerts, visiting Art Museums and Galleries.

Yeah, maybe they do see themselves a bit.  I don't know.  As long as I get them thinking at least.  Just to put that bug in their head.  I once read an article in Art in America with a huge debate over whether art should (be allowed, that is) have a moral or didactic stance to it.  I didn't think that was an issue.  Isn't that why we live in America?  I'll get off my soapbox now.

Hi Don, thanks for the compliments!  I've been told my work has some "bite" to it before.  I'm glad you found it humorous.  For the most part, people do, but I've also been told they've been "horrified" by it.  Oh well.  Thanks for stopping by my site.  I enjoyed looking at your masks.  I could see some of these as huge, 6-foot paintings.  I find the close-up ones to be very powerful.

Don,

Thanks for visiting (& commenting) on my work.

Your masks are very striking. They hold together nicely as a body of work but you are clearly expanding and exploring in each one. I particularly like "Insomnia" and "Frame of Mind". Good work!

Don, thanks for visiting and your kind words about my work. I actually have to go to Ada, Oklahoma tomorrow to do a house portrait. I'll grab a few more photos to hopefully do another painting or two.

Your work is great...nice since of color and design. Well done!

Hello Don, I love the paintings of the masks! They look so lively. Where is the art culture in Vegas?

Hi Don, Thanks for your kind comment on my painting
"The 3 Graces!" I love your colorful masks! Sounds like you have a wonderful job. I spent a week in Las Vegas in 2005 visiting friends. Lots of good art around. cheers, Lina

Christ's Altar sold last week, too, so it was a real energy boost!   And it must be so great to have a career that pays you full time to create!  Congrats to you!!  That's what I'm striving for.

Glad to meet you....

:) Lauren
