For years I painted rugged landscapes
inspired by places I hiked. I'd plan my
work on location. That all changed when
my friend was injured and we had to help
him hike out of the forest. After he was
safely back I wanted to know what we
missed. So I painted the place I wanted to have found.

That experience started a whole new tradition in my studio. Now my work includes both the lush, beautiful places I have visited and those I
invent - places you can only get to through the 'window' of the painting. My goal is for these completely original places to
make satisfying escapes.

Here's my blog: www.barbaraferrier.blogspot.com

Skiing, the outdoors in general - trusting my intuition when painting. And of course, my husband and children.

Hi Barbara,  Thank you for the friends invite and all your very nice compliments.  Thank you for your comments on the river photos...I am glad you got a good feel for the place, that is what i was trying to capture. THe golden Gate is actually a photograph..I just added some fun color to it in photoshop.....

Thanks for the compliments Barbara.  Lets see... how can I pick a favorite! I like "Sea of Fire" because it reminds me of the desert.  " Zandar Peaks" is also very dramatic, but the one I like best I think is "Whisper on the Vines".

Everyone here on the gulf has a lot of good and not so good stories about recovering from the storms.  The folks down here are mighty tough for sure.

Well then, you have a very creative, bright, and imaginitive window in which you peer through.  I have enjoyed viewing your work.

You are right about warmup's.  I took a Burridge workshop last April and that is what we did. I was doing that regularly and then stopped for because I was in a lazy mood.   I finally went back to that yesterday morning and I started painting "in the zone".  I love that feeling.  I have my enthusiasm back-  thanks for the lift!    Deb

I absolutely love your bold colors! I want one to hang on my wall! Even more awesome because they are inspired by nature and hiking and being part of it all! LOVELY!

Hi Barbara- thanks for the friends invite!  I appreciate it.  It is cold outside and I am not doing any painting.   I cleared out a huge batch of old art magazines that I haven't looked at for the last 5 years and that felt good. I have a space now for my marketing stuff. Blah-  I am forcing myself to go in there right now and start painting.  Ever have one of those days?
