I am a recently retired nurse (28 years) who has always loved to paint, and basically am self-taught. I have taken classes in art at the R.I.School of Design, and am currently taking watercolor classes at the East Side Art Center under Carolyn Wolfe. Now that I'm retired I have more time to devote to my first love. I recently became a member of the Watercolor Society, and I feel like I'm just getting my second career going.

I enjoy a yearly trip to Block Island with the school for plein air painting. The island is just beautiful and I come back with tons of photos for painting all winter.

Since January I've made a commitment to paint daily and started a blog at that time. You can see what I'm currently working on at my daily blog: http://bunnygriffeth.blogspot.com

God, family, my grandchildren, the beach, spinning, new paint brushes, blank sheet of paper.

Not too much turns me off.

photography, crocheting, reading, grandchildren.

Hi Neighbor,

I see some places that I've frequented in the past with my watercolor pad.Tell me,... how is life post nursing career?- I'm setting my sights on early retirement myself as long as my painting career picks up- one day at a time- every Friday brings me that much closer to the leap of faith. Keep up the nice work --- Regards  cldmonet

Thanks for the note about the train.  Your work reminds me of my short life in France.  About second careers, I think that's why I'm here. I'm just so thrilled to be able to communicate with other people who feel the same way and have the desires.  First that I'm not crazy, and secondly, that I'm not too old to get started.  Thanks again, Seagirl Rebecca

Thanks for your note!  September is my favorite time to go to the beach.  Like you said, all the tourists are gone, weather is perfect!  I would like to visit Block Island in winter even.  The article I read talked about a hotel there with fireplaces in the rooms and complimentary brandy for chilly evenings, sounds wonderful to me!  I really love the beach any time of year.  There are a lot of "beach people" on this site.  Cool!

Cheers!

Heather

Hi!  Thank you for your comments on my page!  I also enjoy your beach scenes.  I just read a wonderful article about Block Island in last weeks Philadelphia Inquirer.  What drew me in was a photograph of a Victorian Hotel that reminded me of my favorite beach in NJ, Seaside Park and Island Beach State Park.  That is the source of inspiration for my paintings.  I would love to visit Block Island sometime!  You will love Jack White's art books, they will help you in building a solid second career.  Keep up the great work!

BG:  Thanks for the email and the information about Blogspot and WetCanvas.  I will definitely check them out.  I like your watercolors.  I am impressed by anyone who can do them, because they take real drawing ability.  I work almost exclusively in oil, which is much more correctable.  RW

Thanks for kindly complimenting my work. I enjoyed visiting your gallery. Watercolor is my favorite medium so I enjoy looking at fellow watercolorists work. Your work is quite charming. "Swan" and "Colonial" are my faves. Very well done.

I love your floral.  I enjoy doing them but they never look that nice.

For being a retired nurse, you also have a good eye for artistic subject matter and implimentation.  I loved looking at your gallery.  Isn't it fun to finally do something different and paint later in life?   I find it very rewarding and way too much fun!
