I specialize in watercolor paintings of seascapes and maritime subjects. Most of my paintings are custom ordered commissions, although I also sell at festivals and shows. I teach workshops on painting, photography, and art marketing, and I demonstrate and lecture to various art organizations and groups. I also write articles about art business and marketing for my favorite magazine, Art Calendar.

Hi Annie,

Good article on murals in Lake Placid and other places. We live in a small town in the foothills of CA, near Yosemite national Park, in the middle of Gold Rush land. Perfect place for murals. I tried to get a mural organization going here, back in 1998. The local county historian has so much clout around here....believe it or not....she pushed very hard to nix the whole thing. She actually said that "history belongs in books and museums"! Myself and our committee tried very hard to make it happen, but got really burned out and I almost lost  my business trying. So....as far as I know, we are the only community that has the distinct place of being the only town that didn't succeed in telling its history through murals. Not because I didn't try, at least. It makes me sad that we couldn't get people to rally around the support of it. I have moved on and, at least am still painting murals....just not on the outside of public buildings. Ah well,we gave it our best shot. There are many wonderful communities all over the west coast that have succeded in doing wonderful work and have grown as tourist towns because of it. Lake Placid has done a wonderful job. Again, thanks for the article.

Hey Annie - I stumbled across the Art Calendar mag last month at the bookstore that my father works at and have decided to get a subscription. There is valuable information in each issue, especially for an emerging artist like me. I get a lot out of your articles! You have to be so glad to be able to have such a job. Bytheway - I love your watercolors. I like to work in them also and would love it if you could take a look. Keep it up!

Annie, great articles with such good sound advice!  i only wish i had the talent to write but i dont so i guess i should consider teaching in addition to my art.  right now i just need to feel like i have that conquered before i can move on. your article really made me think about other ways to add income. thanks and keep up the good work!
