I am drawn to your blues and purples. Beautiful colors, I like the abstract qualities of your artwork. Great job...

Got your message.  Feel free to "ramble" any time.

Hi Sandy, Thank you again for your kind comments on my painting, 'Promise of the Light'. I'd be happy to answer your questions about my work.

My paintings are inspired by inner experiences and my fascination with light. I usually begin with quite a few thumbnail sketches to develop the concept for the piece to come. Then once I have both a painterly concept and subject, I refine the composition with Dynamic Symmetry until I'm basically happy with everything. I take a ton of photos of everything around me from single flowers to cliffs. I check to see if I have photos that are similar to what I'm trying to do. Most of the time I find I’m missing something important to the composition so I go out in the field and take more reference. I don’t copy the imagery but use it for clarity. Once I have what I need to make the painting, I then will do anywhere from one to three color oil sketches (pochades) to refine the palette. With all this preliminary work out of the way I can execute the painting with confidence. That’s pretty much it I think. What fun huh!

Warm Regards, David

Ha HA!  I just sent you an email and then I checked back and saw that you sent me a message at the same time.  I guess we are really thinking of each other!   Blessings and loads of love to you-        Deb

It was a busy week so I am now just getting back to you.  My weekend is filling up with errands but I hope to get in a little painting time.  I work four 10s so I get Fridays off but most of the time I am braindead by then.  It takes almost a whole day to recover, do errands and then slip into Saturday.   I still bring up your picture "The Ceremony" (which I call the rooster - he is performing the daily ceremony of giving God the first praise of the morning) and look at it.  Do you sell prints?  I just really like this one.  Let me know if you sell prints.

The mother and child one I did was done in charcoal and pastels on linen textured paper.    I started this thing where I did the whole thing in black charcoal and then went over it with pastels.  This is actually a photo of the original piece.  The gallery owner bought the piece years ago.  When I started doing up prints on my own printer, I started scanning pictures I had taken of my art work.  People liked them and bought them.   I have a print of this in my house.  Now, it is very hard to sell my originals.  they are like my babies.  So I make prints and sell those.  I am not in many art shows.  We have some at the hospital I work at and I do those.   The space that my job takes up in my brain is frustrating.  We are bringing in a new system and there is hardly room for one brain cell to have its mind on a certain color, much less a design.  But its Friday!  Have a great weekend.

Yes it is all about the weather. We have ice today and carpet layers coming. Been super busy with relocation and trying to keep business running up to norm.  Am I correct that your weather is always near perfect?

PS:  By the way, your work is superb!  Dreamy...one could get lost in the passages of color defining shapes, blurring into new shapes.  Really very beautiful and sophisticated.

I also see that you've adroitly resolved the problem of how to add medium and size information.  Duh.  Now why didn't I think of that??  Guess I'll have to go edit when I have a chance.
