ok, so now you have me stumped!  what are rf sticks? like oil bars?  yea, i have been wanting to buy some but haven't yet.  what kind do you use and do you avoid a certain kind.  i was thinking about buying the sennielier ones.  yes, i love the bird's eye view and alot of times i just don't have the time to set up a still life at eye-level, and really i don't have my studio set up to do that right now. i will change still life set ups when i get tired of that perspective!  i love your colors on your paintings and i also like the boldness!

Thank you!  I generally start with a photo and then distort that image when I draw it onto the canvas--so, both.  :)

gregory...hey, i'm glad my "nested" blog was inspiring. i'm telling you, i totally redid my entire web presence that way in a weekend, and i like it so much more than my old website. super easy to create and to maintain/update, and of course, free! i must thank the model in "photography", ines. she's a former web designer and it was her idea as a way for me to quickly modernize the presentation of my work.

Hi Greg, hope you had a nice vacation (you mentioned you were on your way out of town a week ago) and now I see the tree additions to your gallery.. were these here before? I wonder how big your gothic trees are! Painting birches is one of the lessons I do with the classes I am teaching and when I do them I use masking tape to keep the white paper cleared of washes initially and once I establish the composition with the washes I remove the tape and let 2nd and 3rd layers of paint drip into where the white from the tape was. I think one of the wonderful things about painting with watercolor is that the medium allows for translucent, mystical effects; other mediums just arent as fluid to me. The painting Emerald Forest is a full sheet of watercolor paper, 30 x 22, the painting Light in the Woods is half sheet, and most of the other tree paintings on my gallery are full sheets. (I was going to add another new tree painting to my gallery but didnt want to over do the tree thing but I may have just changed my mind!)

Tonight I have to do a still life demo, how to not make it boring will be my challenge! I did one last Friday in my other class and posted it in my gallery after much debate about whether I should stick to showing landscapes or if I should show some of my other subjects (still life, figures).. I even blogged about it. Its all fun to me!
