Hi Carol, Thank you for your kind interest in my plein air work. The study was done ‘as if’ in plein air in the studio. I like to capture the fleeting effects of the golden hours of the day with my plein air work. Sometimes I get the timing right, when I don’t I take loads of pictures. Actually I always carry my digital camera with me in the field and take a few pictures right before I start to paint (after doing all the preliminary stuff). Then later back in the studio or camp, I’ll have the shots to jog my memory while finishing the painting.

I like play of shadow and light in your painting ‘West Fork of the Chulitna’; good job there. I also feel your still life work is stronger especially in design and execution than your landscapes. Perhaps their different approaches are what you are after though. I would like to see you push one into the same space as your still life just to see that power expressed in landscape.

Warm Regards, David

I saw your profile pic and had to stop. I paint in the field year around. Last month on a farm in Illinois where the temperature was 18°F with two feet of snow on the ground. BRRRRRR! It's nice to see that there are others who don't let the elements keep them indoors. Keep up the good work.

I don't know if it matters or if you even care but your still life work seems to be much stronger than anything else in your gallery....I don't know if anyone has pointed that out to you on here but it was an observation.

I read your remarks to another artist on this site about the swan's wing. Just a little FYI: Among the Onandaga tribe of the Iroquois nation the elder women have the right to wave the swan's wing - this shows a decision in matters of life and death.  Many American Indian tribes believe that the souls of the dead are carried to the next life on the wings of various water birds; the swan being the most often noted.

Love your work.  I see you don't have a hobbt because you are too busy painting to try and make some money.  I have to agree with you.  I hope you become successful in your work.  It's very cool!

Clambert,

Did you paint those swan wings? I have to study those wings in your "Swans" pic. I have a painting I started years ago and it sits in my studio and stares at me. I have tried to paint the wings on the "angels" like your swan wings. I love them!!
