Robin: I'm glad you liked my photos. It is interesting that you, also, have recently returned to college and received your Masters. What grade do you teach and what subjects? You mentioned how art is a therapy for you. That is how it is when I am photographing things. I sometimes think I would be oblivious to a terrorist attack while I am looking through my viewfinder. Creativity is such a special gift. &nb sp; &nb sp; Owen
Robin: Thank you for visiting my page. Your paintings truly convey peace and serenity. They leave a person with an immediat sense of calm. It is so amazing how an artist can open their soul through their art. Obviously, inside your soul resides the most beautiful sence of tranquility. I have just downloaded some of my photographs. I think you visited my site prior to me doing that. If you visit again I hope you enjoy my flowers. Owen
I haven't been on for at least 2 weeks- but I did order and a few days ago received The Tao of Watercolor. (Finally!)I have just started reading it- but i see a lot of your title in the paintings! We have been super busy landscaping, and I have hardly spent any time at my drawing table recently, but I am accumulating ideas! Nice to see you have some new postings.
It would be nice to see you, and you might stop at the welcome center anyway, since it is such a nice space. Last time I was asked to extend the show a month, then another month. This show is in a very promenent spot, and might not be up past the scheduled July 3rd date. From the I-91 turn off to Chester, it is a beautiful 30 minute drive north to WRJ, maybe 25 to our house in North Hartland. It would be nice to see you, if you have the inclination to see a little bit more of the up-country. Here is a link, you might find it easier to mapquest it yourself than to cut and paste this monsterious address:
Last night I hung yet more work at our local Library...a real stretch, given the other places and unexpected opportunities. I am definitely limiting my showing to galleries, the art fairs I can manage to get into and juried exhibitions after the August restaurant show in Burlington. I have had it...(I am cured, for a while anyway)... of the 'public service' aspect of showing in cafes and venues that are specifically for selling art. It is just too much work. I think I have shown like 25 times in the last 2 years, and while valuable ( I am so quick at putting up a show now!) I think I have gained what I can from those hangings. Needless to say my studio is empty of any finished work now!
I got my cards finally, and am happy with most. I have gotten a rack, too, thank you for the tip. I need a better, local printer that can get me proofs first. The Kinkos does a pretty good job, (xerox) but the quality just isn't there. It will help fill out the rack, though, until I can get more offsets made.
I did tell you how nice you paintings look, didn't I? The screen doesn't do justice to the subtle colors.. Well I see you have more work up, you never stop do you!
hi robin....thanks for your note. i was unable to upload an image on my profile page so that's why i put the photo in my gallery. as far as selling work in rockford goes...we have no tourism to speak of and rockfords population is around 160 thousand. ow i have managed to make a living here for over 35 years is somewhat of a mirical. several galleries out west have sold some of my western material of indians but rockford has been my main client base. i have one show each year in my country home and studio. special preview for my best collectors on thursday night. saturday and sunday for the rest. ONE weekend that my career rests on for a years work aint exactly a comfortable posistion.... but so far....still cross my fingers.
thanks for your comment robin. as i was telling alston....the place where i worked for24 years was an old abandoned farm house on a dead end road. no indoor plumbing and the rooms were so dark i had to use artificial light even at mid day. i am very thankful that i now have those windows you mentioned. your watercolors are poetic.....tom
Show canceled due to rain and wind, mercifully, as i just got the canopy Friday...somewhat stressful to have delays when you count on things like this! Gives me a few more weeks to iron out the kinks in the displays.
