Hello, fellow tree-dreamer!  They really are mystical, aren't they?  And always inspiring!

Hi Robin, Thanks for your comments on "Silence Gives Consent". I love that the hair on your arms stood up. I couldn't ask for a better compliment...

To me, the "ominous" is represented by the skull mask while all of the lit up windows in the cityscape represent huge sums of people. Thanks for asking...   -Don

Nice to get your note.  I haven't found the time to be online, with the building.  I have sold several easels, and would be happy to bring one to Boston, next time I go.  The meteors are bring reminders of courage for winter, and now the geese are mustering in V's, and Starlings are flocking.  All signs of the inevitable coming of the dark days.  It is hard to get anyting done when there is too much time, I always seem to be more productinve when I have a few things going.  Probably part of the ADD. I did get the slabs in for the little interim addition on the barn for the studio, and the garage apt. I hope to post some picture.

Thank you for the painting, it is a reminder of our lunch with Janet.

Hi Robin,  It was good to hear from you.  I've missed our painting sessions and look forward to starting again.  That's an interesting question about which medium is harder (and by the way, my pastel teacher said the works are called paintings, so you were right).  I like the vibrancy of pastel and the fact you can layer light over dark, and change things as you go.  You don't have to plan as far ahead as you do with watercolor.  But I also like the unpredictability of watercolor and the transparency and the beautiful glazing of one color over another.  I guess I don't have a favorite at this point, and I really don't know very much about pastel.  I've also been experimenting with new surfaces for w/c.  Check out my post "Lone Tree" and tell me what you think.  It's on w/c stretched canvas and was really fun to do.  I liked the way you can layer the paint and get texture, but it's still w/c and you can do washes.  I'm doing the same painting again, slightly different colors, on CP paper so I can compare them.  Maybe I'll post that one when it's finished.  Hope to talk soon.  Carmela

Hi Robin,  I really like these latest works, especially the one with the  tree.  Are they on rice paper or w/c paper, with ink?  I haven't posted anything in a while, but I have been painting.  I also took a pastel workshop last week and loved it.  Carmela

Hi Robin,

I've been hors d'combat for awhile - too much life for the virtual! In answer to your question of last March (grimace) yes, fiber. I paint most of the fabric tho and the technique is similar to watercolor. Then I find aspects of the fabric that give me the effect I want, draw with my scissors and needle and there ya go!

Where are you in MA? I was in Melrose until 5 years ago when I embarked on this great adventure in the mountains of North Carolina. Don't miss the weather, the traffic or the pace of life, one bit!

replace the word title in the previous message with the word s-t-y-l-e. This silly website always replaces the word s-t-y-l-e with title.
