Deb - thanks for the nice note.

Before I went full-time like you, I asked an artist friend who had made a good living painting for 25 years, how I could become become a better artist. He said "That's easy - quit your day job." I laughed and said "No, really."  He replied "I mean it - quit your day job - you'll get much better real fast!"

He was right.

Congratulations on having the guts to leave your day job - I applaud you.

Hi Deb,

Thank you so much for the welcome to scuttlebutt!  I really enjoy your work as well!  Do you run your own studio? How long have you been a part of this site?

Deb, I am really and truly happy about what I am capable of doing now, all because I decided to take the plunge and get my own photoshop softwear. I did not need to purchase the complete photoshop softwear but photoshop elements was all I needed to resize for shows. I just finished making my first disc, 300 DPIs at 4 x 6. I had to label each painting according to the instructions the Copley Society requires and I will be submitting work to them next week. I used to pay someone to do this for me and it really isnt hard so all I can say to you is dont be afraid to get your own softwear. For resizing art photos you only need photoshop elements (about $90). If I can help you with anything dont hesitate to email (robin@fineartbyrobin.com is the best address because I have not been receiving emails from this website properly).

Good luck!

Hey Deb I've been doing great! Thanks. I've been keeping busy working with a web designer. I'm pretty excited to get a website to reflect me and my personality. I'm working with Rakel with Ingero.com. She created a backdrop for my site that is awesome. I selected  a handful of photos of texture and architecture that interested me. She took the impression of all of those photographs and some other ques I gave her regarding other sites I mentioned to create it. I was truly impressed. I can't wait until it's done.

I'm also taking a Get organized class from Alyson Stanfield on line, so needless to say I've been filing, backing up and sorting. A good winter time activity!  If you are reading up on art marketing, Alyson has a new book coming out in a couple weeks entitled "I'd rather be in the studio but I have to eat!" cute huh. If you don't know her you an see her active blog full of excellent info at www.artbizcoach.com.

I've been listening to Success Principles by Jack Canfield. He's very good too. I would definitely recommend.

Nice to hear from you.  Hey what's with the Burridges? Any word?

Hi Deb.  Thanks for the nice comments about my painting.  The one you refer to is a portrait of my mom and her friend having lunch one chilly day on the beach in Alabama.  She will be 82 tomorrow!  She is full of life and so when I captured the two of them on the beach, I had to paint it.  Are you in Minnesota?  Burr! It's incredibly cold here today as well.  A good day to work in the studio and catch up on email.   I enjoyed looking at your portraits as well.  I love watercolor tool.  I haven't gotten back to it yet....still exploring oil pastel and really loving it.  Thanks for the note.  This does appear to be a great site.   Hope to chat with you again soon.

Carol
