Hello!  I had to come back and see how you are. Look at your gallery again and be amazed.  I hope you are selling!  They are beautiful!  I loved the Kite Runner, too.  My Norwegian family gave me the book on my return flight, and I couldn't put it down.  Did you see the movie?  I haven't yet but I want to.  Well- off to make dinner-  Talk to you soon!    Deb

Hi!

Thank you for your comments about my turtle.  I did it in tribute to my cousin who was an amateur herpatologist and had the sharpest sense of humor on the planet.  He died of brain cancer 14 years ago and I painted that in his honor.  It's always been one of my favorites, so I never sold it.

PH Martin are labeled as watercolors, but they act more like inks.  They are brilliant in hue and much fun to work with.  They are extremely transparent and light fast but they are also extremely staining.  Once a color hits that board or paper, it's there for life.  Very difficult to pull back up, if you like to be able to do that.  I used Letramax 2000 illustration board, which is really smooth, but I think it would be easier to control if you used a clay coated illustration board with just a little bit of tooth.

You can't tell from an image saved at 72dpi, but I didn't do any washes on the turtle itself.  It was all done small brush cross hatched, layering the colors.  It was fun because they were so transparent, they dried so quickly that none of the combinations turned to mud.  Give them a try and let me know how you make out!

Artfelt I especially love your elephants,  you have captured an essence, an understanding, their majesty maybe.   Have you travelled to Africa?

Hi Artfelt,  I can truly relate to your comments in your "About Me"   Yes it is about seeing the colors and shapes that make up a subject,  Sometimes I suggest to others to blur their vision and see how their perception changes.  And I also think that creating art is a continuious process, a never ending developing.  I often describe the process like reading a good book each chapter develops the story, each addition of paint or texture or medium develops the painting and when you are done...it is like a good book, you place it where you can see it and are reminded of the story that touched your heart, your life....   Sometimes art is a capturing of a moment, or a feeling, or something you admire or love...

thank you for your comments on my work....after sending this off I look forward to discovering yours.

I have absolutely no interest in going back to school right now.  My teacher's comments came at a time when I was completely
burnt out on taking classes anyway. (I had even started skipping
classes quite a bit; and if you knew me, you'd know how out of
character that is.)  If I ever get the urge to take a class again, I
definitely will. (I've had some WONDERFUL teachers!)  But, for now my
path lies elsewhere.  I've found that if I don't listen to my
intuition/gut/that "still, small voice" inside - then things get out of
balance very quickly and I end up unhappy and full of regrets.  Right
now I have no regrets.  I feel like a phoenix starting to rise from the
burning ashes.  It's awesome.

I 'm glad your path lead you to some really great teachers.
Your art is wonderfully expressive and beautiful!  I wish you the best
on your journey.  Thank you for visiting again and for your
comments/input.  It's nice to be able to communicate with other artists
from all walks of life and from different places.   Thanks for sharing!

P.S.  Once again, I'll put this here and on my page.
