I think you over stated it a little, just a little, ha!  but thanks for your comment.  I did sell the painting of the Mississippi Oyster Fisherman.  I did show it once and the judge turned it around so I took it home and reworked it some.

Thank you for your nice comments about my work in your message of 1-19; sorry it has taken me so long to reply.  "Life" got very busy there for a bit.  Sunnyvale isn't that far from Livermore.  Where do you get your inspiration from?

Hi Carol,

I don't enter that show because the jury system regarding fellows and artist members makes the odds of acceptance by regular members almost nil.  I have decided to not renew my membership with that group.  Don't get me wrong, I like entering shows.  But i also like getting accepted, and even occasionally, winning.  I try to steer away from shows and organiztions that offer little or nothing in return for my dues and entry fees.

To answer your other question, the paintings of small boats are selling better because of a broader audience appeal.  Ships and sailboats fit limited decor, but the paintings of the small boats appeal to a wider, more generic market, and can easily be incorporated into a variety of decor themes, not just nautical ones.  They also appeal better to jurors, especially when combined with unusual or interesting compositions.

ta ta,

Annie

Hi Carol,

Bummer that the western regional maritime show is not going to be held this year.  Best of luck to you, on entering the national show!  I have not tired to enter that one in many years -- let us know how it goes!
