I just saw that on their website recently.  I was told he suddenly decided to resign.  I don't know any other details.  They claim it was unexpected, but who knows.

Hi, Annie...I think you visited my page here in AScuttlebutt.  Thanks!  I so enjoy reading your articles in AC.  The last article showed how far you have progressed.  Good for you!  I recently retired from teaching (public school) and am just getting started again in my art.  I am not very "techie" and all the pointers given are helpful.  I admire you and your work!  Warmest regards, Lucinda

Hi Annie, Thanks for your thoughtful response to my inquiry. The first three years I had a website gallery I had no sales and no inquiries. It was discouraging, but I stuck with it. In the fourth year I started making sales from people who were just browsing, and even managed to connect with an overseas interior decorator. However, I'm very cautious about these transactions because there are so many scams. Therefore, if someone wants to purchase from my website then their funds must clear my bank before I'll send the painting. So far, I've had only success with this method. I haven't started any open studio events yet because I'm building a second studio at my other home in Maine which will be more suitable. However, many of my artist friends hold open studios once a year and make lots of sales. I think this is a good idea and will pursue it.

Annie, I enjoy your articles in Art Calendar and the perspective you offer. I've had many conversations with professional artists about professional development, and have many strategies of my own. However, I'm wondering about what appears to be a growing trend for artists to move their galleries to the www and away from traditional galleries who take such a large percentage. True, they work to find clientelle and develop a market for the artist's work, but I've been making a lot of sales on my own website(www.kacartwright.com) and the clients pay shipping and handling, so it's just about all profit (gotta pay for the website, however, but it's cheap). Have you had any experience with this or witnessed a marketing shift?

It's the Acadiana Center for the Arts in downtown Lafayette.  Their website is www.acadianacenterforthearts.org.  I had emailed you in the past about a show in Lacombe, I don't remember the name of it.  Anyway, the AcA is a great space and they have a call to artists for the Southern Open, so check it out.
