Beautiful day
DATE: 05/03/2008 22:08:23 / MOOD: in love

I spent the day at the beach with my son today for an early Mother's Day.  It was gorgeous here on the FL gulf coast.  We had a great time sitting and chatting.  This man was sitting sunning his pet python.  He was quite a character and we took the opportunity to chat with him.

Moving forward
DATE: 05/02/2008 22:45:24 / MOOD: full of life

I was busy today unpacking all the things I received from my cousin and realize there is no way I will ever use most of what she gave me so I have offered to let some friends pick out materials they will use.  A project came to mind while sorting.  She has two daughters and she has really been into assemblage collages.  So I thing I will do a project for each of her daughters strictly using the materials she gave me.  It will be a challenge and a tribute to someone who cared for me as a newborn.

Mortality
DATE: 05/01/2008 22:38:46 / MOOD: full of life

Today I visited with a cousin who recently found out that she only has a few weeks to live.  Her breast cancer has spread to her lungs and liver.  Her attitude is good.  She has her affairs in order and is prepared mentally.  She is an artist and insisted that I take a lot of her supplies because she knows she will never be able to use them.  She did keep a few things because she has a couple of projects she wants to complete.  As a true artist, she said that once she started creating art, (only a few years ago) she couldn't stop and won't until she no longer has the strength.  I hope I have her attitude when my time comes.  She had recently been accepted into her first juried show and had sold a painting.

Dawn Breaking
DATE: 04/29/2008 20:57:32 / MOOD: other

This is another painting I found in my stack of old ones that I had forgotten and never did anything with. It is now framed and on my wall. When I came across it while sorting, it sort of had a wow affect on me and it didn't deserve to be hidden away with a lot of bad paintings.

Self Portrait Monotype
DATE: 04/26/2008 23:23:14 / MOOD: bored

n instructor once told me that every artist should do a self-portrait at least every five years. Well it had been about 10 years between my last and this one. I really didn't know how to do this with a press but was determined. I used two plates coated with Akua inks. The second had an outline of the face in crayon. Fortunately the crayon transferred which allowed me to see the features. Then I used a stylus, swabs, and a brush to add and remove ink until I was satisfied with the image. The best part of a self portrait is knowing that you never have to age any more than you want. I was able to smooth out wrinkles and hide the spots. It is closer to what I want to see in the mirror rather than how I feel.

Turtle Walk
DATE: 04/24/2008 20:10:41 / MOOD: other

This is a miniature monotype (6"x6") that I used two plates to create.  The first plate had rows of red, yellow, and a pastel peach color.  The second was a solid blue that I had scratched in the grass and border, wiped out the turtle, and dabbed white for the clouds.  It is fun and challenging working this small and will have to do until I find a bigger press that I can use in this new area.

Girl with Hat
DATE: 04/23/2008 22:31:29 / MOOD: lonely

This is a painting I did in a workshop several years ago that has been in a stack with a lot of others that I never framed.  Many were really bad but I like this one alot.  It now has a new life in my new bathroom that has purple accents.

Back for a while
DATE: 04/22/2008 19:46:12 / MOOD: other

After being away from my art sites for a couple of weeks, I am back and ready to start posting again.  We finally got my computer connected to the internet so I don't have to wait for dear hubby to allow me time on his.  Check this out.  It is a mini monotype I did that sort of combines both my dogs into one.  The big ears and bright eyes belong to one, the chubby body to the other.  I call it "Which One".  I guess I am going to have to go back and figure out how to add the picture link to the blog.  The intuitive way still doesn't work.

Didn't get finished
DATE: 04/05/2008 21:33:34 / MOOD: disappointed

We didn't get the studio finished today as I had hoped.  There are too many distractions like getting the sod laid, hanging curtains, painting the porch floor.  It won't get finished until we get back from a trip to take care of some business regarding the old house we are trying to sell.  It has been over two weeks since I did any painting.  I am taking my sketch book and paints so maybe the week won't be a total waste.  I probably won't get back on line until next Fri or Sat.  Have a good week.
