Living Proof
DATE: 12/01/2008 00:03:06 / MOOD: in love
I am not sure why I named this what I did. It is nice to have an image of life continuing. We have had a string of deaths among our friends and family the past few months. It makes you think about the routines in our life and how one person's death affects so many lives.

Fall in Florida
DATE: 11/26/2008 20:20:38 / MOOD: in love
For those of you who think Florida doesn't have fall colors, this photo is for you. The countryside is in full color especially the maples, cypress, and sweet gum. We have had such cool weather that the color has come earlier than usual. It normally takes until Christmas for this much color to appear. We have another hard freeze on schedule for tonight. But we are hoping for warm enough temps tomorrow afternoon so we can eat the turkey on the patio. If not we will sure be crammed into a much smaller space. Hope all have a good Thanksgiving.

Early Morning Migration
DATE: 11/24/2008 20:04:00 / MOOD: in love
Early Morning Migration is something you see year round here but more so during the winter months. This is my first post on my new computer. I still don't have everything set up the way I want and still need to transfer stuff from the old one but at least I am up and working. I'll be teaching a monotype workshop at the Cedar Key Art Center in March. Details haven't been finalized yet. I let you know when they are.

Circling the Key
DATE: 11/10/2008 21:36:56 / MOOD: bored
I have been working on my Florida series. Cedar Key is an old fishing
village that still has lots of charm. This monotype includes an image
of the most photographed structure in town. I made another picture
today that I am really happy with but it was too late to get a photo to
post.
To go along with the fun of creating art, I am going through the
frustration of having to pick out a new computer before this one dies
completely. My step son is using his company discount to get me a new
MacBook. It is much more powerful than this old iMac but I will have to
get another monitor to bring it up to the size I am used to. I guess it
is an early Christmas present to myself.

Leaves Alone
DATE: 11/07/2008 20:38:32 / MOOD: lonely
I haven't posted much lately but I have been busy trying new things. This is a little thing I did while experimenting. The leaves were inked and then pressed directly on to the paper. I did something similar on fabric. That one I set the inked leaves on the fabric then weighted them down with a piece of plexi and set them in the sun. Now that I have gotten some photos loaded and corrected I will be adding more work.

Portrait of Ba
DATE: 10/27/2008 21:36:18 / MOOD: happy
This is my latest painting. The photo is not all that good because it is still wet and shiny. I will try again tomorrow and hope to get the glare off. This lady is the mother of the lady we stayed with in England last month. As soon as I saw her I knew I had to paint her portrait. She has such grace and elegance but at the same time is very humble and helpfuul. She graciously agreed to a couple of photos. I hope to do another in full figure to capture the full length of the sari which was her usual wear. She is of Indian descent but was born in what was then Rhodesia and spent most of her life in Africa before moving to England where she helped raise her granddaughters while her daughter and son-in-law worked in other parts of the world as a doctor and nurse. It is a very interesting family and I am glad to have had the privilege of meeting all of them. One of the granddaughters is a pediatrician and the other a conservation lawyer.

Father and Son Promenade
DATE: 10/14/2008 20:14:59 / MOOD: lonely
This is the first painting documenting my European excursion. This is my host and his son leading us through Cologne (Koln), Germany on a wet, cold, windy Sunday afternoon in October. We were headed for the Dom (cathedral). The son, an architect specializing in restoring old buildings, had graciously agreed to give us a personal tour and to fill us in on the stained glass window saga. In this particular church, all the windows were removed and stowed for safe keeping during WWII. They are still in the process of reinstalling them. It is an arduous and expensive process. Even after 60 years, only about half have been reinstalled. It just shows that the cost of war is infinite. A smaller church did not remove it’s windows and many of them were destroyed. They are being replaced with modern versions that are causing a great deal of controversy.

Back Home
DATE: 10/09/2008 19:34:24 / MOOD: happy
We made it home from 2 weeks in Europe late Tues night. It has taken us a couple of days to catch our breaths and get back into some type of groove. I took over 1200 photos and am only about a quarter through loading them so I can get to work. I already have a few projects in mind but need to get to them before I urge disappears. It is good to get back home to heat and humidity instead of the cold and rain we had the entire time we were abroad.

Off to Europe
DATE: 09/21/2008 16:00:40 / MOOD: happy

This is a new monotype that was inspired by something I saw in a magazine. I call it the Water Line. We are off to Europe in the morning and won't be back for a couple of weeks. I will take a sketchbook and my wc travel kit but am not too sure how much I will be able to use them. We have a pretty busy schedule. No matter what, I will be getting lots of photos of London, Amsterdam, and Germany. When we return I am sure to be inspired to do a whole new series. Happy creating to all. libbysart.com
