Travel. I love to travel. I like being out of my element. I like finding myself in situations that I don't know the outcome before I arrive. I often pack up the paints and ink and paper and work while traveling. (It sure beats flipping channels through bad tv shows alone in a hotel room waiting for the morning.) I have been trying to think of a way to incorporate the places I go directly into my artwork. Well, it hit me when I returned from a stay in Canton, MI a few months ago and found the room key still in my pocket from the hotel I had checked out of earlier that morning. Thats it! So with that, here is to travelling and letting yourself experience new things, meeting new people and being flexible enough to try and enjoy everything... Enjoy

Keemo fans are the best. "Fans" is probably the wrong word. That implies something about me that really doesn't give the right impression of the reality that is here at the desk every night. (Bands have "fans", people like Brad Pitt and Oprah have "fans") I think "Friends" would be more appropriate. This seems to be happening more and more. I get requests for certain subjects. It happens a few times a week now. It reminds me of when I was in middle school and we would call the local radio station and request a song and then listen all night waiting to hear it. If you were lucky, the DJ would say something like, "By request, here are The Vapors Turning Japanese for Jeff, Matt and Keemo!" and we would all be like "No waayyyyyyyyy he said our names! How awesome!!!!!" We were goofs. Anyway, with that in mind... "By request, this "King" goes out to Joy in beautiful Southern California"... Enjoy!

I don't ever say this about my work (especially out loud) but I am going to say it now. I like this painting. Don't get me wrong. I'm not bragging or self inflating my ego or saying that this is a phenominal piece of artwork that is going to go down in the art history books next to the all time greats. Nothing like that. I'm simply saying that somewhere in this picture is something that speaks directly to me. Actually, isn't that what we all look for in artwork? We might even say that it is technically the job of artwork. I think it is the lines or maybe the fact that the paper is 138 years old or the fact that the content is completely religious and there is irony somewhere in here or that the 138 year old message is the same exact message that is preached now and is probably the same message that was from the beginning and somewhere from then to now a whole other world has opened up and ideas and lines and color and people all continue to move forward while if you look right below the neck, underneath it all, is the same old question... What Saying Of Our Saviour Does This Picture Illustrate? I guess that is my answer. With that... Enjoy!

Half of my life has been spent with her. I don't know if that in itself means anything. I suppose it could illustrate we enjoy being together or I suppose it could illustrate that we are good at navigating the bumps in the road together or maybe that we must communicate well because no two people usually stick it out if there is no communication. I guess I point it out because today is our anniversary and I have been thinking about the last half of my life and without sounding too much like a hallmark card, I wouldn't change a minute of it. I think the rest of the story I will save just for her. I think it is really her story and she deserves it. With that, here is her portrait and to finding people that you can believe in and sticking with them and growing with them... Enjoy!

It's 3:19 AM. It is Friday night... oh wait, Saturday morning. The house is quiet. It has been quiet for a long time now. I listen to a book downloaded from itunes. I have arrived at this point in my life where there is no time to drop everything and lay on the couch and get lost in front of a long novel. (I miss those days) Somewhere along the way, I learned that I can listen to books and paint at the same time. They go well together. Like the paints and night and quiet. The story on the speakers is about Vampires and humans and love and life and death and all the other stuff in a good vampire story. As I paint and listen I think about the life and bones under my own skin. I am aware that all this flesh and bone really is temporary and I imagine to have a life like the vampires in the story. (Don't we all!) I grab another piece of paper and attempt to draw the bones under all this that move this body about. With that...Enjoy!

The story for this new series is simple. It also requires that I don't write a story to go along with it. Just as the title says, this series is of "Words That Are More Than They Mean". We all interpret things differently and all words carry different meaning with each of us.
