The Surreal Bible
DATE: 10/02/2008 16:08:41 / MOOD: full of life

Hey everyone-
For everyone that has visited my site, I want to thank you. The artists that know my work knows that I look at the world alittle differently than others.  I am in the process of writing a book about thoughts, theorys, and ideas about life and the world we live in.  The book entitled, "The Surreal Bible" will probably have the same effect that my paintings do.  It will make some people mad, some of views I talk about may change the way people look at marriage, god, heaven, hell, tips, taxes, race, lawyers, drugs, warranties, holidays, guns, gay rights, evolution, death penalty, plus dozens of other subjects that I feel needed addressed.  The book should be finished in about a year and ahalf.  I already have three publishers that may be interested in the book once finished. I will keep intouch with everyone about the progress of the book as its being done.   Its going to be a "Good Book"

TRUE TO ONESELF
DATE: 08/26/2008 16:27:41 / MOOD: don't know

Hey everyone-
I haven't blogged in a long time so heres a subject thats bothering me.   I have been busy painting for all kinds of shows.  I have had some commissions, I have painted things that are in  the news.   At the moment, I'm painting a painting for the Gala (benefit auction for art scholarships in our area). Well, I'm doing a panaramic view of downtown Burlington (Where I live)  In the past I have donated surreal art and only got around 500.00 fr the work.  Then, one year I painted a work of a local scene of Burlington and it brought 3,300.00. Since then, I have donated paintings that I knew would bring in the bucks.  My cousin says that I'm selling out for the buck, not true to my art. I feel that I'm trying to get more money for the kids going to college with the desire for art.  What do any of you fine artists feel on this?  If I wanted to sell out, I'd paint wildlife (very big in the midwest.)  I also feel that its good to try different styles to challenge yourself.   Anyone agree with me or is my cousin right?

SEEING A GHOST
DATE: 08/01/2008 16:17:52 / MOOD: full of life

Hey everyone-
This blog is in regard to the artists works that have done their time. I mean, a painting or work that has been exhibited alot and never sold, but too old to enter in exhibitions and didn't receive alot of interest.  Lucky for me that most of my work sells or gets put into someones collection.  There are works that aren't so lucky and I paint over them to produce a new work. (Ghost painting)  I know all the works that I put out there that has a painting under a painting.  I normally don't like to do it, but I hate to waste a work plus the buyer gets two for one.  Is there anyone out there that does this too? Some of the masters did the same thing.  If you didn't do this, you may end up with alot of work in your closet.  Also, if you don't, start signing your works, because this shows pride in your work and self, also making it desireable to collectors.

BE ON TIME WITH COMPETITIONS
DATE: 07/01/2008 10:53:10 / MOOD: don't know

This blog is for those artists that enter art competitions.  Make sure you check on the  date of the exhibit and when your work needs to be there!!   I've been painting for twenty-five years and been in dozens of competitions, but I still every once in awhile screw up!  For example, RIGHT NOW!!!!!  I was accepted inthe International Competition of Gallery Creation at the Castle Des Reaux in France. Being accepted, I am going to be in a permanent exhibition at the castle entitled," Woman's and Men's Legs in the Art of the Beginning of the Third Millennium".  I double checked the info on the exhibit on Sunday, (29th) and it said that the work had to be there the 30th of this month. DANG!!!!!  I thought I had til the end of July- I was wrong! So, I e-mailed the director of the exhibit in France and told her that I was happy to be in the exhibit, it just won't be there the 30th.  She e-mailed me back and said the deadline for sending the work has been extended til Oct. 1st (waiting on works from the U.K. and China)  Whewwwwww.... I got lucky there, but the are alot of shows and competitions that are go to the letter, when they say its suppose to be there, it better be there.  Always double check the times, if you want to be in the show!!  Has anyone out there had a close call like that or missed an opportunity because of alittle carelessness or forgot something?  Or am I the only one with this problem?

HERE COME THE JUDGE
DATE: 05/25/2008 15:50:27 / MOOD: happy

Hey everybody-
This blog relates to taste in art and what people think about different styles.  I myself like alot of different types of art (surrelaism ,realism, abstract, etc) and am inpressed with not just the visual ,but the task in creating that certain work. I know that surrealism isn't for everyone, but give some credit for the substance in the painting. I have judged many art exhibitions and one thing I do not do is play favorites ,because someone has done a surrealistic peice. I judge the work as a whole and decide how much thought and feeling went into it and how difficult it was to acheive it. Same goes for when I enter exhibits and I don't recieve anything. Yes, it's only one person or two or three's opinion, that does not mean my works not good, that just means that they prefer the other works more. In the same sense, I have gone to the opening of a comp. that I entered and thought there were alot better painting than the ones they chose (not including mine)  Has anyone had any thing such as a comp. happen to them similiar to this? Have you thought you could have judged the show better? Remember, not everyone likes the same things (thats what makes this world a beautiful place!)

SEEING THE COLOR RED!
DATE: 05/23/2008 10:04:41 / MOOD: happy

This blog is in regards to color and what colors artist like and use the most.  As an artist, if you look at my works, you should see that I try and balance my colors through out my paintings.  If I have blue in the lower right hand corner, I try and put some blue in the upper left hand corner.  This doesn't always work ,but that is my way of constructing my art.  As for my color that I use the most, I find I run out of yellow ochre the fastest (mixing it with others to get different tones.) My favorite color is red,but I have to be careful in the amount of red I use, powerful color. When I use to be a designer at a flower shop, I ws always told that I shouldn't combine red with yellow flowers (I personally think those go good together) What is your favorite color? What color or colors do you use the most? I would be interested to know!
