I'll be one of 5 speakers on October 6th for an event that is a kick off for Texas.  The Episcopal Church in Visual Arts( ECVA) is starting a Texas chapter.  Here is  press release on all of the information and a link to all of the speakers.

Free resource for submitting art work on the web
DATE: 09/28/2007 09:31:09 / MOOD: in love

My editor did not have room for this research and so I thought I would share it here.  I spent some time searching the internet for websites that offer artist's an online presence for free or at low cost.  I added the list to my forum. If you know of any others please drop me a line.

PR is changing. Do you use it? Old or new?
DATE: 09/28/2007 09:23:49 / MOOD: other

(O.k. I thought Blog title was the title of my blob, but I guess it is the title of each post. Hmmm I'll get the hang of this site.)

Public Relations (PR) is changing. I’m writing some articles and want to know if you use PR- the old way or the new way.

Sending press releases are not the same as they used to be. In the past a person would find a newsworthy story and create a press release that would clarify that story, and then blanket the media. which includes; newspapers, magazines, television and sometimes radio.

For me PR has been a very valuable resource and has helped me to build my online press kit and the portion of my website titled Publicity Received. I can also copy the press release and add it to my web site as in this most recent release, or I can copy a printed story and add it to my site. I am now going through the process of adding the video and audio interviews. PR success has given me many wonderful marketing stories to share in my marketing workshops that always give the attendees their own PR ideas. If you have not utilized PR you should. But be warned it is addicting! It might start with the cover of the weekly magazine that you have on your doorstep and then you will want more. You will want city wide, statewide. Then print will no longer be satisfying you will want local television coverage, then national. Each notch in your PR belt creates a sort of high. There are so many tips and tricks to public relations. I am surprised that more people are not using it.

With the age of Information Technology the press release has changed.

Its delivery now includes blogs, online newspapers, websites and e-mail newsletters. Press release Optimization is the buzzword in public relations. And doing this cannot only help to get you media coverage but will assist in the rankings of your web site.

Do you use press releases in your art businesses? Are you familiar with press release optimization or the free places to submit press releases on the web? Please drop me a line and let me know.

Creative Endeavors 2
DATE: 09/27/2007 16:08:56 / MOOD: full of life

Hi everyone,  I don't know where to introduce myself, because there does not seem to be a place on the forum for that.  I guess I'll just copy and paste my profile here.

I have been an artist for over 25 years. I am a sculptor and most of my work is through commissions. It can be seen on my web site at http://www.creativesculpture.com.  I also paint in watercolor, but have just recently been learning the digital watercolor medium to help illustrate a few children’s books that I have been writing.

As a writer I have been a coauthor on several books and write nonfiction for a couple of different magazines. My favorite things to write about are the business of art, psychology, gardening, the brain and education. You can read about my writing at that portion of my website

Presently I am writing business articles for Sculptural Pursuit Magazine and the Best of Artists and Artisans online magazine.  I am presently looking for a publisher for my first book, Bringing to Life the Spirit of the Deceased—A Sculptor’s Journey. It has been a fascinating journey writing it and I am looking forward to some of my first interviews on the book. The research that I have done on emotion in art is the topic of one of my first interviews.  You can read about the book

I have an online journal and three blogs. The Newsboy Journaldocuments the eight month-long process of a commission for the Texas Press Association of a life-size newsboy sculpture intended for the state Capitol in Austin.  The journal takes the reader from the signing of the contract through the installation of the sculpture and beyond.  It is located at

Two of my blogs are updated regularly.
•    The first is Creative Endeavors where I blog my recent work and happenings. http://www.creativesculpture.com/blog/

•     The second is a blog on a specific job, a posthumous sculpture of Professor Richard Hathaway. The project has been around for a year now.  The TW Wood Gallery in Vermont has been raising funds to cast the figure.  I have just received word that they have the money and now we will be completing the project. http://www.dickhathaway.blogspot.com/

•    My third blog has not received many posts of late. Because it is related to education. It is title Perpetual Learner. Not long ago I found myself back in school finishing my undergraduate degree, I blogged my process of education, which at my age was very interesting.  It was also quite intriguing because of the type of school. Vermont College is a student driven educational system.  In other words, the student designs their curriculum. It was an incredible experience.  I hope to continue on doing the same type of education at Goddard with a masters of fine arts in Interdisciplinary study.  That way I can study writing and art and still be able to mix the other elements that I so love like business and psychology.  Then it would be on to a PhD, studying creativity as it pertains to behavioral psychology and neurology. It was fun to be back in school and learning, not because I felt like I had to but because I wanted to!  I have decided on holding off a bit on the masters and therefore there are very little posts on that forum right now.

Last but not least I am a public speaker and speak on creativity and marketing and the artist.  I have a wonderful workshop that I have created for marketing in the arts you can read about on my website.
