The sculpting of Richard Hathaway- A movie
DATE: 12/22/2007 13:54:02 / MOOD: full of life

I created a life-size sculpture of Richard Hathway, a professor at Vermont College Union Institute, that is on its way to the foundry.  I also put together a video, posted on You Tube, that talks about the process of creating Richard Hathaway.  I was able to insert my last You tube video into this blog, lets see if I can do it again.  If not you can find them both at my web site located at http://www.creativesculpture.com If for some reason you can not view the video here is a page on you tube that helps you troubleshoot that problem.

If you would like to listen to the charm of this incredible man there is also another video that I edited and placed on you tube.  He is talking about progressive education. For those of you unaware of progressive education it is incredible.  It is education that is based on the student.  At Vermont College and Goddard College they encourage  you to obtain your degree by following your own passion, and directing your own study.  THIS IS INCREDIBLE and I wish I would have known about it sooner.  I went back to school at 45 years of age, attended Vermont College and created my entire study on "Bringing to Life the Spirit of the Deceased- A Sculptor's Journey."  I am in the process of completing the book
taken from my thesis.  By the way, I'm looking for a publisher for this book.  Please pass the word! I will also be creating some more videos and podcasts to discuss what I have learned. The research has been fascinating! I'll be sure to share them at a later date.

Did anyone go to the online seminar that I suggested?
DATE: 12/17/2007 21:50:40 / MOOD: in love

So what did you think of the online lecture?  Did anyone listen?

I was glad that Joan talked about the basics of target
market. Here is the article that I wrote about Target marketing http://www.creativesculpture.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20

I loved the 12-month strategies for creating publicity.
Though much of the topic was basic for those into publicity I think it was very
helpful for many.  I can’t wait to
write my article for social media publicity, it is such a hot topic.

I love that she said you need to learn how to
interview.  Even after many years,
the most local media coverage did not go the way that it needed to go.  Even though I was prepared the media
was not.  They had the wrong
photographs for the entire program and lost all of the other photographs that I
sent.  It through me off

I loved that she talked about the library and Bacon’s or Gebbie
press.  I was amazed at the
resource that our local library had for media contacts, (I’m from Houston.) But
the Writers Market book is a very great resource for targeting our market and
is available by anyone.  Take a
trip to Borders, get a cup of coffee and look at the Writers Market.  It is a great resource to help you
target your market resources of magazines/newspapers.

Anyone else listen?
What great information.

Free online seminar- might be helpful
DATE: 12/14/2007 10:00:14 / MOOD: in love

I have been attendig quite a few online free seminars.  THis one is coming by joan steart of publicity hound  you can get the information here  http://www.advantageteleclasses.com/mediaplan

 It is on developing a media plan for the up and coming new year.  What happens with these seminars is , you call in on your phone.  The only cost is what it costs you for a long distance call.  Then you listen in on the conversation. Sometimes they open the call up for questions.   Be sure to take notes.  Joan, the person being interviewed, has a wonderful web site with lots of information.  She even sends free newsletters on press releases.  IT is a good resource. and has been very inspiring for me in my publicity adventures as an artist.  Be warned everyone always tries to sell something on these shows, a book, more lectures etc.  But that does not mean you should toss the program because of it. See you there.

Being creative in another way- a movie
DATE: 12/12/2007 16:59:39 / MOOD: in love

I have been so busy lately and have not had time to check in. I wish I could say it is all with artwork, but most of it is office work and writing. I am going through a huge learning curve with my new computer, but loving the possibilities it holds. Had my first attempt at creating a movie that I posted on you tube. I’ll try to post it here and see if it takes. It is for my collectible gift series, another thing that is taking so much of my time. We had to totally redo the www.godsword.net website utilizing things like merchants account, secure socket, integrations with accounting system and manufacturer. All things that would make any artists brain smoke a bit.

if this does not work you can view the movie on you tube or on my home page blog found at http://www.creativesculpture.com/blog

Wow, so many good things are happening!
DATE: 11/07/2007 22:03:02 / MOOD: full of life

Wow, so many good things are happening!

* A publisher expressed interest in my book “Bringing to Life the Spirit of
the Deceased-A Sculptor’s Journey”

* Another
magazine “skirt” would like to interview me

* My
article just came out in Sculptural Pursuit and it looks great!

* I have
been asked to write an article for Sculptural Review. What an honor!

* I am
about to embark on an endeavor that some claim will be so lucrative it will set me up for my old age.  It is not a new undertaking but
has been fermenting for 10 years!
More on that in future blogs. It is so exciting!

* We are
doing a new website for number three in the list.  I’ll post it when it is done,
right now it is just a headache, shopping cart, merchants service etc.

* I’m
getting a new computer! Yes the big guns. Here it is http://www.apple.com/macpro/ A mac
of course. And the new operating system!  My new screen came today. Waiting for the rest.

* I am
going to start podcasting!  Ah
technology.  I will be interviewing
different people and offering advice.  Of course there is a ton of things to work out, but I
am getting there.  More on
this later!

My goal is to have all of this in place before the first of
the year!  The 2008 is going to be
my year!  Can’t wait!

Yesterday's appearance on FOX
DATE: 10/31/2007 22:11:24 / MOOD: in love

Yesterday I was featured on the local fox news cast for my book "Bringing to Life the Spirit of the Deceased-A Sculptor's Journey." I am presently looking for a publisher, but because of the topic, the halloween season, and the press release that I sent out they featured me. I wish it were a longer segment and I could get into the research behind the science and the psychic and the science behind the emotion with art. Also about the strange occurrences in the book. I am thankful for the segment, but I have to say they were not very organized. I sent a ton of photographs but they did not use them. Oh well, there are always more appearances to come. There is not much you can do in two minutes. ( really there is if you are organized) If you would like to see it you hopefully this link will work. IF not you can go to the FOX website and type in Mongeon in the search. The video should come up.

I look forward to getting my new computer so that I can compile some of these topics in audio podcasts and in video. Maybe that will help the producers see the interesting elements and how they go together.

Ah, I wish for someone with the creativity Like producer Manny Santos. He did the channel 8 segment on me years ago. With the right producer this topic would be extremely interesting! I'm trying to get Manny's channel 8 segment ready to show on the web. It was really great and he won best artist documentary for it.

By the way, I am not sure where they got the God's Word piece to show, As I did not give it to them and it did not go with this segment. Yet it kept coming up. For those of you who don't know, God's Word is a collectible series that I sculpt. ( please note if you go to the God's Word web site and it is down it is going under a total face lift this week!)

If you are interested in seeing the press release that was sent to get this gig, here is a link

Another notch in the belt, another thing to put on my media page

New television appearance
DATE: 10/28/2007 19:00:27 / MOOD: in love

Two entire days of putting together press releases, about my book.  After all writing a book titled, "Bringing to Life the Spirit of the Deceased–A Sculptor's Journey" is a good thing to tie in with this present season.

Sent them everywhere, even the big guys.  The optimized online release can be found here .  I had hoped for more press, but I'll take what I can get.  After all the book still has not been published.  Tuesday morning local news FOX.  I'll try to get a copy and post it!  Just spent the last hour getting more photographs together for the segment.  I have done this so many times I pretty much have this down to a science.  Just don't know about trying to get a digital copy of the segment.  Last time I was on tv, a VHS or beta was what I requested.  I just spent hundreds of dollars putting those into digital format to try and get up on my web. Sure would be nice to avoid the middle man!
