Today, I Paint
DATE: 05/06/2008 12:19:23 / MOOD: full of life
Today, after days of organizing and cleaning out my studio, and a two year absence from the act of creating---I am going to paint! Even if it is just "getting paint on the canvas"...that is my goal. Hoorah!

Reference Photos And Copyright Issues
DATE: 05/02/2008 16:22:08 / MOOD: happy
Hi All, I have got an idea ruminating for a portrait of a famous person. I want to use a certain reference photo. It was taken in the 1930's. I wondered if I base a portrait on this photo, will I have to use the photographer's name for copyright reasons? I realize that I could use a combination of photos, but I really want to use just this one. Anyone have any advice on this? It's a bit premature, as I am still "sweeping the studio"...but my mind is creating it before I put brush to canvas, so that's encouraging!!

To Begin Again!
DATE: 05/01/2008 19:34:22 / MOOD: other
Okay, I am coming out of the artistic shadows and confessing. As I mentioned in my profile, Life became very "big", for lack of a better word--in the last couple of years. I was too fixated on making perfect art then just painting for the love of it. I gave myself a sabbatical of sorts. Now, I am desperate to paint again! Which is a good thing. But I am so worried that somehow I have forgotten everything. That I will lift my brush and stand there baffled! I am even putting off cleaning my studio out so I can reclaim it as a studio! Arrrgh. Has anyone gone through this or something remotely like it? How does one BEGIN AGAIN?

Someone whose work I love!!

I am fascinated with Scott Burdick's work. His brushwork is so amazing. Loose and free yet so purposeful. I am in the process of a "portrait" phase of my art and his are amazing. Have any of you met him or seen his work in person? I would someday love to take a workshop with him! Scott Burdick's Website
