Artists Are Good People
DATE: 11/06/2008 07:52:42 / MOOD: full of life
I will be attending an exhibit opening tonight and a gallery walk tomorrow night. These both take place in a small area of Oklahoma City called the Paseo District.
At one time, this neightborhood was full of 100 year old slum residences and drugs. About 10 years ago, artists began moving in and reclaiming the buildings. After lots of renovation, it is beginning to look like a colorful New England market street. There is a long way to go to claim the entire area but people are flocking there for the atmosphere. Art, street cafes, potted plants and awnings are creating a unique and colorful novelty and it is the artists who have done it.
I am proud to be an artist!

It's Finished ! ! !
DATE: 10/22/2008 09:34:04 / MOOD: full of life
Finished, dried and off to the printer. Last week, I became a non profit foundation (This is funny: as artists, we feel that way most of the time.) to direct the funds for this painting of the lion and lamb - listed on this site in my gallery and on my web site (click on "special"). www.rousart.com
*I have not yet learned how to insert an image.
I am taking orders now and all proceeds go to Teen Challenge. Giving back - love it.
Oh yeah, I am now DBA the Weep No More Foundation. Another bank account, another ledger book, more paper work, an accountant and all the extra forms, PO Box and stationery. There is never an easy way.

Thank The Media

Maybe we would all be better off if we were not on the information highway so much.
I cannot open the door of a public restroom without using a paper towel.
I can no longer drive my car because I can't buy ethanol or purchase from certain companies.
Thanks to Oprah, I take a blanket to sit on in movie theatres.
Thanks to the TV news, I can't pick up a $5 bill dropped in a parking lot because it may have been put there by a sex molester waiting under my car to grab me.
Who wants to shake hands with anyone after they have been driving when you find out the number one pasttime while driving is picking your nose?
Fear grips me when I realize the internet has places to tell anyone how to build a bomb or set up their own meth lab.
Somewhere I heard about poop in the glue on envelopes.
If I answer the phone, someone will ask me to dial a number for which I will get a bill with calls to Uganda, Singapore or Ukrane.
I am washing the top of every can before opening because who knows where it has been or who has touched it with what?
Shopping at Target is no longer good since they are French and don't support our troops or the Salvation Army.
If you don't pass this along via email to 1400 people in the next hour, a chicken with diarrhea will land on your head.
Have a good day!

The Artist & Food
DATE: 09/18/2008 07:43:35 / MOOD: full of life
First thing in the morning, I stumble to the frig for juice. After I feed the dog, I have coffee at the computer. To the second cup of coffee (now getting dressed), I add a cookie.
After yoga, it’s off to the local coffee shop for iced chai and a scone.
Mid morning and my stomach is beginning to cuss at me. Let’s see what is left from supper the night before. Cold goulash! Mmmmm, my favorite. Scarf this down with morning vitamins.
Working in the studio, I need my trusty M&M’s and those really crunchy potato chips. Ooops! Need fresh coffee after missing the turpentine jar.
One o’clock and I need a break. How about lunch? Who has time to cook? A fist full of carrots and I’ll take the V8 to my work table to pack for the post office, after adding lemon, hot sauce and salt. Oooops! Good thing paper towels are a fixture.
Hubby calls and he will be late for supper. Good, I can get more work done so I’ll need a cup of tea and a cookie. No, had one; I’ll have a cucumber - before the tea. There are some things that one must not mix together on one’s pallette.
Next thing I know, another painting is finished and it is time to consider supper. Have to run to the art supply store so we’ll just stop for pizza on the way. Get a large one to take left overs home for breakfast - another favorite.
Making templates for eBay, I need a smoothie. Cherry is my favorite and I make good ones.
Wind down in front of the TV with a movie. Of course cheese crackers and popcorn are just the ticket.
The phone rings and it’s a client calling to pay for an order and asks what I am doing these days. After I do this monologue for them, they comment on how busy I am and they just don’t know how I do it. I reply, "Well, I have to stay busy; it keeps me from eating so much."

Diary of A Mad Artist
DATE: 09/17/2008 07:43:24 / MOOD: full of life
Dear Diary? What's that? Sounds like talking to a plant. Yeah Yeah, plants are people, too. Hey, I'm a tree hugger.
I have scheduled every day this week to do certain tasks: Monday was business paperwork and PR, Tuesday was work in studio, today is writing, tomorrow is for studio work and Friday I will balance check books and do computer work (prowl internet, make templates, update web site, photo new works and download - the usual).
This worked in theory but it is not working too well with my ever changing moods. Where are those M&M's ? I keep hiding them from myself and actually forget where I put them last. This reminds me of a story:
Many years back (more than I care to remember - or could), I shared an old country house with another artist who was a nut for being healthy and fit. She was disciplined with work schedule and health routine. Well, she had a weakness for those marshmallow cookies coated with chocolate - me, too. I bought some at the store when she was on a diet and she asked me to hide them from her so - I did. Come Saturday morning, she is up an at 'em.
Shrieking screams come from the back porch, "What is this stuff all over my clothes?" "What stuff? What clothes?" I ask as I run to her. "This!?!?" she proclaims as she holds up a very feminine pair of under panties. "Are you using the clothes dryer?" I indquire. "Yeeaaah?" comes her answer. "Well, you found the chocolate cookies."

And Then Came Tuesday
DATE: 09/11/2008 07:57:30 / MOOD: full of life
Sam is on the roof.
Plan to do: order chin food on line, take photos of latest works, eMail show promoter, eMail printer, trash has to go out, take old file cabinets to outreach center, get to post office to ship order, more newsletters out, to store to pick up order, Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon, load the van for tomorrow's painting excursion and be ready to attend a house party with a friend (I hate these things but they are good for net working).
Need to do: balance check books, answer eMails, filing, print more envelopes, update mailing list, run the dust mop, finish order on easel, adorn latest carving, post in ledger, update web site and get Sam off the roof.
God, could I have another couple hours in this day?

It's Monday - All Day
DATE: 09/08/2008 11:57:50 / MOOD: full of life
Regarding headlines lately of illegal aliens, New Orleans and alligators eating people - I have a solution:
Dig a mote the length of Mexico, move the dirt to New Orleans and put all the alligators in the mote. - ?
What a day already! Not a thing done that I mean to accomplish and here I sit at the computer. Some wild critter up chucked on the front porch and the cat is on the roof. The print is waiting to go to the post office, the house is waiting to be dusted, my teeth are waiting to be brushed, the dog is wanting to be fed, my newsletter is sitting in the printer, eMail is waiting to be answered and the latest painting is on my easel waiting to be finished.
My printer is waiting for an order, the magazine article is waiting to be read, the finished work is waiting to be framed, photos are waiting to be taken and I am waiting for the check that is in the mail since the first. But I have to be positive, smile and go with the flow because I am a professional. me
