Lost a Friend Today
DATE: 02/27/2008 21:43:14 / MOOD: other
Hello All,
Got a call from NJ today, a friend calling to say his wife passed away. We met them in 2002 when we were living in NJ, and became couple friends. She worked at the New York Times. When she told me she had sclareroderma I looked it up on the internet. It said it was fatal, but she never wanted to talk about it. Her apple pies and blender cake were the best. We ate many happy meals at their house. They came to my husband's 60th birthday. We had rented a great waterfront house in Branford, and they stayed over.
Good-bye, my friend Chrissie.
Sorry folks, I had to get that out, blogs are for good and bad times.
Good times are coming up for me. This weekend, I'm going with an artist girlfriend to NYC Art Expo. There are people on this site that I will get to meet in person! What fun. If anyone else is exhibiting that I don't know about, please let me know and I'll stop in and say hi.
I was just approached by another gallery opening in May. I am doing new seaweed work. Have to put the acrylics down for a bit. I love to work with them, but don't think the work is salable. Maybe I'll sneak in a sand, or stucco peak.
Do your best,
Lisabeth

You never know

Hello fellow Art types,
Today I took one of my seaweed pictures to a framer for the first time. His name is Chris, and he was neat. He's an artist, and will show me some of his stuff tomorrow. He gave me a present, a piece of watercolor paper with very fine seaweed on it. Someone gave it to him a long time ago and he didn't want it. I took it home and made it into a new picture. I will download it tomorrow. You never know where inspiration will come from!
It is my first pure seaweed in a while. Can't wait until tomorrow!
Sleep tIGHT,
LISABETH

Tons of Happenings!
DATE: 02/25/2008 18:41:57 / MOOD: don't know
Hello Artistes,
Not sure if I wrote it here, but NYC sold yesterday. It was hanging with the Madison Art Society's show. The good news is that someone I know bought it, so I can visit it when I get missing my NYC. I made it in 2006 and it has hung in many galleries, summer tent shows, etc.
It was chosen by the Madison Poets Group as one of the works someone chose to write a poem about. I was honored when they invited me to their reading.
I was Gallery sitting(volunteering) yesterday 1-4:00. I brought books, magazines, catalogues, tons of food, grapes, plumb, candies, Art Books, because they told me it would be boring.
Boring? The people never stopped coming. I had to greet them, tell them about the poetry group because the poems were hanging below the pictures. I had so much fun, especially when my friend walked up to me and said I want to buy NYC.
Life is like waves, they keep coming, some are stronger and more dangerous, some are soft and uplifting. I have had many waves lately.
Do your best, (Buddha's last words)

Sick of Snow
DATE: 02/23/2008 22:38:27 / MOOD: bored
Hello Artheads,
What am I doing in New England if I hate snow? Yuck, I hate it. Fri missed my dentist appointment, hair appointment, and therapy. Some called me, I called others. I like snow on Christmas Eve and that's it, already!
Worked on fixing my two acrylic mixes today. Bought the wrong gel to seal everything. The one I got is great, but you have to mix paint with it. Back to Blick sight.
Tomorrow, I gallery sit 1-4 for the Madison Art Society show. They told me to bring a book, because nobody comes. I invited some friends, we'll have a keep Lisabeth awake party.
Hope to have some new work to show next week.
Do your best,
Lisabeth

Slow Down
DATE: 02/22/2008 21:56:14 / MOOD: happy
Hey Artheads,
Today, I realized it was time to slow down and organize. I have another show coming up in March and two Galleries who want at least 10 pieces each for their May openings. Do I have 20 great pieces? That's why I have to get organized!
Tonight, when my husband was walking to his room (hospital bed) things in my studio grabbed him! Pieces of rush and brambles, piles of bubble wrap, stuff! Tomorrow, I organize. Sunday, I gallery sit for the Madison Art Society's show which includes my NYC. I took the hours 1-4:00. They say bring a book or sketch pad or something because it's usually snooze time.

More messy fun
DATE: 02/20/2008 14:28:19 / MOOD: happy
Hey Art Types,
Have I lost it or what?
I have been working on a second acryllic (not that the first one is finished yet) for a few days, and just photographed it (badly) and posted in my gallery. This site is for learning, showing, wishing, laughing, etc, is it not?
I am very honored. Tonight I was invited to attend the Madison Poetry Society's party and readings, because someone chose my picture "NYC" hanging in the Gallery, to write a poem about. I can't wait to hear it.
Last night, when I told my husband, ill as he is, he took out his notebook and wrote "Roses are red, Violets are blue, I hate seaweed, Don't you?" He is the best.
Anyway, it's 3:30 and I have to be ready by 6:45, so I'd better go and get started!
Allow your soul the freedom to sing, (Mother Theresa)

Texture, Color, Art Store
DATE: 02/18/2008 21:47:15 / MOOD: happy
Hey fellow brush holders,
Today my husband drove me to New Haven to a great art store named Brill(Guilford has none, and Blick is great, but I wanted to touch stuff). I bought some great acrylics, a brayer, a clear finish. Giant gesso, good canvases, everything I needed.
Got home, mixed and played the afternoon away. Seems like too much fun, painting with acrylics, adding textures. Maybe I have it all wrong, but I'm really into it. I'll download more as soon as I'm happy with the final pictures.
Paint away,
Lisabeth

Home from Retreat
DATE: 02/17/2008 21:05:25 / MOOD: other
Hello Artistes,
Just returned from a guided women's retreat weekend at Mercy by the Sea. I learned I don't do well with a project to do every hour for three days, non-stop. I slept and ate in the main building, and the retreat was held in Seascape, a bit of a walk away. I must have walked back and forth 300 times, not counting the night I got lost in the woods.
The grounds of the Center, with a labyrinth, many sunrooms with rocking chairs, and perfect views of waves hitting rocks, lots of beach to walk. I will return by my self, with no agenda to follow.
Tomorrow is another day, one I look forward to.
Sleep tight,
Lisabeth

You Asked For It

Hi risk takers, Happy Valentines Day!
I downloaded "Wanderings", my first acrylic mixed media piece so everyone could take a look. Please feel free to tell me what you think, what is wrong with it, what is okay. I feel exposed, but that's what it is about, sharing your art with other artists.
Today I worked on a second acrylic mixed media painting. I used seaweed, sand from the beach. I felt childlike glee creating the picture. Is this normal? What is "normal" anyway.
Live in the light,
Lisabeth
