What i could be better at

I definitely think I could/need to be better at marketing.  I'm good at being an artist, but not at marketing myself or my work.  Doesn't come naturally.

I have donated work to a worthy cause.

And, thank you for the invitation to join this group!

Marketing?

I noticed that many floks answered marketing.

That is a huge area. It includes creating resumes and portfolios, approaching galleries, researching opportunities, sending press releases, etc. I haveproblems with all of the above, but I think that my biggest issue is taking the time to find and approach galleries. I conveniently don't find the time, and therefore avoid the rejection...

Donations...

I don't do a lot, but i try to volunteer time to school art programs, and have donated artwork that has resulted from the events.

fearless answers

I could be better, much better, at organizing the business piece of my art. I have recently had many deadlines for different projects all at once and my head was spinning. I finally had to hire a friend to work for me for two days just to get me under controll. I have a friend who used to do drug research and she has promised to help me develop "systems".

I give art away quite often. Actually, I get a little tired of it. I get "hit on" by every organization in town: the Rotary Club, high school teams, daycares, etc. The hospital asked me to donate a piece valued at $1000! I have had to limit my charities to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice (my favorite) and to programs that benefit children. Also, I have a budget for charity now so when it's used up, it's gone. I don't mean to sound ungracious but sometimes I'm approached a couple times/week.

I Wish

I wish I were better at technology and the way it relates to my art (Web sites, blogs, etc.).  I also wish I were more self-disciplined.  I let general "busyness" get in the way of creating art and in the way of learning new tech skills.

Years ago I donated a lovely piece (one of my favorites) to the Boys and Girls Club auction here in Escondido.  Then this year I donated a piece to the city's municipal gallery for their annual fundraising event.  The event was a success, and it was fun to participate.
