Recovering medical illustrator, I got tired of working for lawyers. My family needs health insurance, so 10 hours of my day is occupied as a dedicated beurocrat (an occupation we all aspired to as kids, right?). At night in my bat cave, I work on refining my techniques in egg tempera and waterless lithography. (Waterless lithography is a non-toxic method of producing lithographs from stuff one finds at a True Value hardware store. No stones required. My lumbar vertabre just vibrate with happiness.) I'll pull out a block of wood or metal plate and just dig in on occasion as well.

Color, humor, New England, Japanese food, Japanese arts, egg tempera, a great book, Anole lizards, Lake Champlain, making people laugh, spare time and the worlds greatest stray dog at my feet.

Cigarette smoke, traffic, airports, dial-up connections, assholes, flying cockroaches, freezing rain, commuting.

Soccer coaching, martial arts, hiking, skiing & banjo. Visual art is not a hobby, like breathing is not a hobby. (Besides, when I'm very lucky, I get paid. I'm working hard at increasing my luck.)

Marcia,

We did see your piece, but not those in the store front, yet.  I don't think I won any awards, even arriving a little late.  My son Jasper came along for a soccer practice, which turned out to be a beach scrimmage and BBQ celebration for their winning the state cup and anticipating their upcoming trip to Maine for some finals.  All in all the Gala wasn't what I hoped, I really met very few artists, didn't see Linda van Horn, and Chris said you weren't there when I asked.  And everyone else seemed to prefer to clear out.

Did see a very interesting show at the BCA firehouse gallery, somewhat conceptual, about the art world and its gearing to the "uber-rich"  You might check it out when you have a chance.

I have met a medical illustrator here in town whose anatomy class has become one of the most popular classes at the AVA gallery.  Interesting, a lot of people seem keen in learning the deeper details of the body...I think he calls it , "Form follows Function".

Until then,

greg

Polyester
Plate Lithography with Rebekah Tolley,
Saturday and Sunday, May
24th and 25th,
10am-4pm. ($175 plus $15 materials

All the
qualities of Litho, without the chemicals! This process offers new options for
traditional Litho lovers, and is great for those interested in non-toxic
printmaking, is inexpensive and it can even be done at home. The immediacy of
poly plate litho is a simpler introduction to lithography; it’s easier to grasp
the basic principles and is great for those who do not enjoy all the processing
of traditional litho. It offers a variety of ways the plate can be imaged:
drawing, washes, photocopying, or even printing digitally generated imagery
directly from the computer onto the plate. Open to all levels.

I'll just look for you on the chair by the computer desk, the one with the skull.

My son lives in S. Burlington during the week to attend the Waldorf HS.  He had a head injury and has been benched, been tough, but temporary.  You have the advantage because coincidentally, I look pretty much like the picture I use for my profile sans goatee.

Your right Twin Rivers isn't offering it now, you might inquire by email and get on there list.  Was in Rutland tonight for the Chaffee opening.  It was fun.  Greg

You know, I have no recollection of that piece, and am bamboozeled how it got there.  It is pretty weird.  Do you recall anything about its size or image?

Any clue will help, it sold, and the collector info is private, and the title of the piece must have been wrong, since it refers to a different piece hanging in the Maltex bldg.

Do you coach Nordic, my son plays on the u18 team?

I hope we can find each other at the opening!

Twin Rivers Print studio (White River) is offering a class in waterless litho,  looks like something we talked about a while back, and thought you might like to know.

Neato, I liked the zebra, it reminds me of scratchboard (which is my specialty). Have you ever tried using styrofoam for carving into and making prints? If you want to experiment with something new, try it. It could be a little frustrating but with skill and a sharp knife it is possible.
