I’ve been painting with acrylics since 1972. As a self-taught painter, I’ve adapted my methods and techniques to a practical system which accomplishes my goals. When it comes to subject matter, I never feel lacking. As long as there’s light, there’s something to tell about. A quote from St. Paul inspires and serves as a framework for my artistic expression:

“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.”

Philippians 4:8

If it makes me smile, or think, or wonder, and when the light is compelling, I first capture the idea using my camera. My creative process continues with colorful, expressive words about my subject. Finally, I use my paints to put those words into a visual account. It would be apt for the viewer to consider a narrative behind my work.

I enjoy teaching acrylic painting. Providing potential artists with the tools and techniques they need to create their art, and watching their enthusiasm grow as they learn to paint, is simply a joy for me. Also, teaching keeps me attentive to the many attributes of the medium. While I favor a more realistic rendering in most of my own work, for the sake of teaching the versatility of acrylics I’ll create pieces using a heavy impasto technique, or implement layers of glazes, and sometimes, even iridescent color. I like to encourage my students to experiment with a variety of acrylic mixing mediums in their work in order to find an expressive style unique to them. The different acrylic mediums on the market today greatly expand the artist’s creative possibilities.

Classical Music, watching my granddaughters, Red Sox, Boston Celtics, watching the games with my husband, creating beautiful paintings, singing in the church choir, traveling with my husband, family dinners, spending time with my kids, Finnish coffee bread (Nisu), beauty, truth, God's promises in the Bible, and that's all for now...but so much more.

I like your gallery very much!


I think the ducks captured my attention the most. I really like the colors, textures, and especially the viewpoint!


 


You handle 'light'  in paintings very well!

Thanks for visiting my page and for your kind comments.  I also like your work very much.  You are able to create effects in acrylics that I never could.  I gave up on them (except for quick sketching and underpainting) a long time ago.  Keep up the good work.  RW

Your have created a wonderful sense of mood and atmosphere in each of your paintings. They do tell a story of a particular time in space. I particularly like the one of the cars on the wet road. It feels like I'm right there barreling down the road. nancy
