Not really a hobby, but, I've been a professional geologist for many years. My research focused on mass extinctions and I teach climatology and oceanography at the college level. However, I'm retiring in May 2008 to continue my full-time passion of painting.

Thanks, Glen Echo was a part of my childhood too.  Spent many a summer day at the Crystal Pool.  A few years ago, before they began restoring the park, I visited and the pool was just an empty concrete hole, cracked with weeds growing in it. Really depressed me!  Now it's filled in with just the old entrance standing.  The carousel has been beautifully restored along with many of the buildings, including the one in the picture.

I LOVE your eggshell series...the colors...the compositions...all the unique variences in the perspective of one subject.  Your still lifes are exquisite--such clear, sharp, vivid detail, from shadows to highlights.  Wonderful!

Thanks so much for your comment about Saltwater Tulips #2.  It is actually a photograph--I should add that to my photograph titles so it is more clear.  I have thought about making a painting from this image, though.  The lines and colors would be fun!

Hi Kathy, Thanks for your comments on my masks. Yes, I exhibited them once back in December at one of the lounges in the Bellagio Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas. That was my first show in 10 years and it lit a spark for me. I had been kinda hiding my masks since I started the series a little over 5 years ago. I was doing them for myself as a means of "maintaining my sanity" as I continued to focus the bulk of my creative energies on my day job as an Art Director in TV. This year I set a goal to start getting them into juried shows and hopefully some galleries. No success so far, but I have confidence it will come about. Thanks again and congrats on your retirement.  -Don

Your shell pieces are amazing. Love the detail and how the composition turns the shells into abstract patterns. The detail work in your still lifes is outstanding! Thanks for sharing!

Kathy, I love to sail but don't get much opportunity anymore.  That photo was taken in March on a boat of my old sailing buddy.  He heard I was moving from the area and invited us for one last sail.  He has a 38' Island Packet in superb condition.  It was a glorious day and felt great to be have tje wheel in my hand.  My sailing has been mostly on the waterways in Florida.  We keep taliking about renting a bareboat in the Carribean but haven't put in our schedule yet.  Libby
