Working the crowd at an art opening

It would seem that being able to talk to people is not one of my stronger points.  I can talk about my work ok because I understand that but starting off a conversation with that isn't great place to start.  What are some of the different topic's other have started off with.  I want to be able to work the crowd with out sounding like a egotical(sp) Artist.

Any help would be great to hear.  or comments

Your opening is a networking opportunity.  You are there to make friends and find common ground with the visitors. Share the story of your paintings with your visitors.

Art openings can be extremely stressful for the artist.  Your life's work is on parade. I have not perfected the technique by any means.  Just relax, be yourself and have fun talking about your dreams and inspirations.

Get everyones names and address to add to your data base. Of course, your goal, is a sale. Ask for it.

Working the crowd

People who do not paint are fascinated by artists, so just relax and enjoy meeting new people, they WANT to know about you and your work. So just be your self.

Good luck.

Hi Laura,

A friend of mine had similar difficulties talking to people.

She joined a Toastmasters group and learned the art of public speaking. After a

while she became a very confident speaker with many new contacts and leads.

Perhaps it would be worth considering.

Warm Regards, David
