Hi Kvanderland, There are so many ways to learn color, heck it's a life's work but there are several books that can help get some wind under those wings.
Believe it or not, the Walter Foster Beginner's Guide to Color is pretty good. The company also has two other color books to further your quest; Color and How to Use it and Color mixing Recipes.
There are more advanced books yet they still start with the basic concepts in these inexpensive volumes.
On the subject of color, I have found the book titled 'Creative color for the oil painter', by Blake,Wendon, published in New York by Watson-Guptill Publications (1983 ) a division of Billboard Publications, Inc., 1515 Broadway, New York,N.Y. 10036--to be a very valuable book!! A must for all oil painters. Hopefully it will help you as it has for me.
I am new to artcalendar and this group. I found a great book in a thrift shop- a big soft cover one only about30 pages long by Hal Reed called HOW TO COMPOSE PICTURES and achieve COLOR HARMONY. it has helped me so much. Also Betty Edwards (drawing on the right side of the brain) has a book on color too. good luck! oh BTW this big book by hal reed is published by walter T. Foster Marlaya
The Wendon Blake book is FANTASTIC! May I also recommend "Color Harmony in your Paintings" by Margaret Kessler, another no-nonsense approach to painting color. The Paint Pony Studio
