I recently started to do some blogging, on this site and then I created my own blog (http://www.kathleenkrucoff.blogspot.com/).
I was wondering what your experiences have been with blogging. I tend to use it as a journaling tool, which I'm finding helpful. I've seen others use it as a way of generating interest in their work, their website, etc.
So I'm curious to know if you blog? If so, do you just do it for your personal interest to track your thoughts, progress on work? Do you do it to generate interest in your work? If so, how do you help people find your blog? Do you have a feature so folks can subscribe to your blog? I've set that feature up on mine. Have you noticed any increase in traffic to your site or blog?
Any other blog related feedback/thoughts are welcomed.
I started blogging in May. I started as a way of talking a little about my art (what inspires me and things like that) and getting it "out there".I still don't have a lot of traffic and no one has subscribed yet, either. I still haven't put up a web page, so I can't promote it there 9yet), although I did subscribe to a couple of blog directories.
I still don't know how to manage all the features very well, but I like doing it, because it makes me think a lot about why I'm doing this and gives me a chance to reach people in a more persnal level, giving me the chance to explainwhat my work is about.
If you have a chance, please check it out and tell me what you think: htp://mynewsky.blogspot.com
I just visited your blog and I think it is terrific. You give wonderful insight into your thoughts behind the creation of your work. I just subscribed to it so I will receive notices as you publish new posts.
Google now owns. It lets you set up subscriptions to your blog too.
It's free. You can find out more at Feedburner. I decided to give it a try because another member of artscuttlebutt used it on her blog. It's Susanne and her blog is "http://www.nonakedwalls.blogspot.com/" , if you'd like to take a look at hers too.
I
must admit, even being a geek, that I had a little trouble getting it
integrated into my blog at first, but I finally got it figured out.
Well, I know I should blog. It seems like a great way to generate interest in my work. But frankly, I don't have much to say unless I've been asked something. It seems to be very akin to working a room which I have never excelled at. I have a hard enough time trying to keep my Squidoo site going.
I too have a hard time talking unless I'm responding or reacting to something. I've always been like that - not just about my art. And the only blog I check regularly is my daughter's, so I wonder why would anyone be all that interested in what I had to say? I feel like I must be missing out on something (or am I just getting old?) :)
It took me a while to make up my mind and start my blog (http://mynewsky.blogspot.com). I felt like I was putting naked pictures of myself out there . To me the problem is that I don't feel comfortable talking about personal issues to people I don't know, and to me my art is very personal. I finally made up my mind and the only way of approaching it that made sense to me, was to talk about my art like I would talk to someone asking me about it . I don't say much about my private life, but I do go into details about things that inspire me or how I feel about something in particular.
Now I don't feel as overwhelmed as before, I think I'm beginning to find my comfort zone. So, if you really want to start your own blog, don't think about what others will say or if people will read it (believe me, someone always is curious enough to read something), just do what you're comfortable with, if its just showing pictures of your work, or talking about your life and how it reflects on it.
Personally, I think that every artist should blog. For me, it helps me get my ideas laid out and see my projects a little more clearly. But not only that, you can share your experiences in your field of art and generate some traffic flow to your web site, even if it is nothing more than something like a Myspace site that you are using to showcase your work, get people to there, it will help you out in the end.
