Pricing Your Work

I would like to find out how other artist price their photography.  Do you price your work by the type of photography, by the square inch, is it a gut feeling, just what type of methodology do you use?

Check your colleagues

Great question. When I sell fine art photography, I price by the size and usually offer framed/unframed prices. I don't like to lowball prices compared with other photographers showing in the area, but I don't like to be the most expensive either. My goal is to sell—and until I completely sell out a show—I don't think I've underpriced myself. I've also reduced my prices over the past six months to face the slowed economy. NOTHING is selling in the Hudson Valley, NY area right now.
