Hello

Hey Everyone!

ok so first, who told who how old I was?  eh?  Not that it was a secret  I'll be 44 in a couple of months....WOW!  I feel 25 and even though I've learned a lot more I still like to think like a kid!

Ok what am I working on.... I'm working on "presence". on "being in the moment"  on appreciating the process rather than the product...Believe me it's been stumping me lately...this is not easy....well until it is.

I'm married 21 very cool and exciting and happy years  (yeah struggles for sure...grad school, cramped apartments and lots of pb&j for dinner... but still all wonderful and nothing I'd trade...well, maybe less pb&j's.... 3 terrific kids 14, 12, and 11 ..

I'm also working on getting the heck out of Memphis!  back to California, but I'd settle in Colorado,  Maybe Seattle, or even Paris.....Who knows..just not Memphis.  I owe a lot to memphis though...it's where my professional art career began....Sooo, ok memphis isn't that bad!

What inspires YOU?  I'm just curious.....

 Kara

Welcome and What Inspries Me

Welcome Kara! Hey move back to California! Its great here! Thanks for sharing a bit of your life and process.

What inspires me? Other artists! This place got me back off my artistic rear and got me wanting to create again! Seeing all the different art here is so inspiring.

Secondly, for me lately, faces are inspiring me. My husband is a special effects makeup artist, so faces are our thing. :)

Thanks again.
Barbara

PS: I just turned 45 and have no idea how that happened! One day I blinked and middle age was upon me. Oh well, it has it's benefits to be sure!

What inspires me....other artists - I agree with that! - and other art. But also sometimes something just stirs up an image....a newspaper article, a poem, a piece of driftwood, a beautiful sunset....

Creations of Others

I didn't realize that profiles could be viewed.... And Yes!  Elvis certainly had/has a profound impact on Memphis.....

Yes!  I was realizing lately that some of my greatest inspiration actually comes from other artists... It is through the perceptions of others that doors are opened for me....  The world offers an infinite supply of inspiration, but often I find that it is the creations of individuals that catches more of my attention!

This site has been a realy joy to be part of!

Just looking at the "Main Gallery" inspires me.

Sometimes when I am driving(especially this time of year) I'll see things outside in nature and think "Wow.  It would be great to get that color down on a canvas".  It could be anything-the sky, trees, flowers etc.  I think as artists we have an unique relationship with color and notice things out there that non-artists might not notice or appreciate.

Also, reading biographies of artists inspire me as well. :)

More on inspiration

Hi Lisa,  colors are a wonderful source of inspiration.....I'm like you too in that regard, even sitting in someone elses living room and looking at their choices for decorating make me think of new paintings with the color combinations... Or take a pile of fall leaves on the ground,  or the color of moss, or patina on copper....all very inspirational.

hello

hello to you all

i just turn 50 a few months ago  and i am like some of you ...i feel, look and act much younger.  but then again age relative to what you make of it.

i teach art to middle school kids right now.....somehow you stay young and in the thick of stuff while doing that and at the same time you being to understand what the years have given to you.....wisdom, patience and time to reflect and refocus on the future.

as for inspiration...man... i am constantly looking for inspiration and not just for me...i have to inspire the students i work with daily....sometimes it is exciting other days i would rather have my wisdom teeth taken out  ( and that was painful)

i am inspired by other artist, music, the news, nature, human relationships and emotions, and humor has to sprinkle in there too.

we as artist see the world in a very different and it is our mission to help others to see and understand what they are seeing as well as commuticate our thoughts and feelings.

well   happy creating to you all

artfitz  ( deb)   i think it will be nice to speak with other artists

hmmm...just turned 41 ! YAY!

Hi all,

I'm Rebecca Salcedo. I live in Atlanta and I just turned 41.  Pivitol age, decade maybe...the me me decade! HA HA

I am from Seattle. I have mostly enjoyed the south since 1999, but I'm ready to go to California, too.  I like the weather there, and being a water baby, I can have it all, and even ski.  Just like Arnold says "What are you waiting for?"

I'm a decorative painter and a fine artist.  I have been working out the greatest lesson; how to be true to myself.

Ok, I'm bearing my heart and soul here, but I never got to have children, :*(  I've spent my whole life (and 2 husbands) chasing motherhood and just never got there, bad luck and screwed up uterus.  Meanwhile, I was wasting time and feeling sorry for myself wondering why I didn't get to be a Mom.  I used to feel so alone in this position, because all my friends have kids and my mom didn't understand.  But, I finally met a woman who is in the same situation, and I don't feel sorry for myself anymore. Now, I'm feeling better about things, and I don't want to waste any more energy.  I have tons of love to give to other people's kids and I know it'll work out in some exciting way.

I guess when I'm old my stories will be about my world adventures and not my grandchildren.  Like in the movies, one of 'those' women who lives in the artist's colony, and wears khaki pants and a big hat and talks about that time in France!

Besides, as long as I can continue acting like a kid, right?

Live in the moment..good advice!  I totally agree.  My main focus is to avoid sounding like my Grandmother when I'm 80, saying, "You know, I was good at that, I wish I had done something about it!"
