Great Job on the encaustic method Deborah! If you like the experimental aspect of doing art, then encaustic is it! Sounds like you had a good time and are inspired for more. To answer your question about ventilation: yes, i have two exhaust fans that are more or less over my working area, and a ceiling fan as well. In the summer it's easy with open windows, etc. I still open the window a bit in the winter. I really try not to heat the wax too high-that's where the toxicity can come from. It's a practice in staying aware when you are working with electricity, torches and molten wax! So far (knock on wood) I haven't had any dangerous situations come up. The fun and addictiveness far outweighs any worries I have.
