I read your comment on my bulletin board about your new series and thought I'd check it out. Since you asked for a critique, I'll do my best. I believe this is your most successful piece in the series so far for a number of reasons:
He's looking straight at me, the viewer, and I feel confronted, uncomfortable. That is an attention-grabber. Also, the light source is so intense and directed that it makes those incredible shadows on his face, adding to the sense of confrontation and importance. The completely dark background enhances that effect and helps to direct my eye toward the face because it "pops". The color certainly adds a new dimension that creates more interest than the monochromatic pieces, but the color isn't what draws me in as much as the previous elements. I admire the loose paint application on many of your pieces, especially when you pull it together with such control to create a painting such as this. Nice job; keep it up!
