My first foray into the world of art was when, at age 3, I covered my grandparents' walls with a crayon mural. It was almost my last foray into anything.
I received my BFA in Art Education from the University of IIinois and then attended classes at the Chicago Art Institute.
After teaching art at the high school level for several years, I decided to use my talent and training as a free-lance artist. I painted wall murals, life-size sports and entertainment figures, wall graphics and specialty finishes on walls and furniture. Later I designed and painted wooden chairs and benches which were actually portraits. All of the above can be found in homes, restaurants and businesses in Arizona as well as all over the country.
A few years ago I put these commissions on hold to follow a deep desire to paint strictly from emotion using colors, materials and techniques that truly excite me. No planning, no measuring, no submitting for approval--how totally liberating!
I believe that an accumulation of lifetime experiences all contribute to the person we are today. I paint using many layers of translucent glazes--each adding to the richness of the finished work. These layers continuously alter the painting and each contributes to the final result--even the very first brushstrokes.
Many of my paintings have been sold in various galleries and other venues throughout the Phoenix area. I am a member of the Scottsdale Artists League and as of November, 2008 I am a juried member of the Arizona Arts Alliance.
In the Arizona Arts Alliance Fall Exhibition and Sale, my mixed media painting, "Sud-O-ku", took a 2nd Place ribbon. |
