In this one-time event, artist Eric Waldemar will screen rare 16mm films by two of the 20th century’s greatest film artists, Stan Brakhage and Harry Smith. Using a variety of film and video clips, including his own work, he’ll sketch the history of fine art animation, from handmade “visual music” to lyrical and bizarre cartoons and immersive digital worlds.

This talk will introduce Waldemar’s upcoming 8-week hands-on animation workshop at the Art Students League (Tuesday evenings, October 7th–November 25th). Expect an edifying and delightful evening and decide if the extended workshop is for you.
