I am Eileen Hale, a baby-boomer artist with Northern California roots, back in Northern California at last. I'm a farmer wannabe, farmer-in-fantasy. I have kept chickens (illegal L.A. chickens!), cats, rabbits, mice, rats, a guinea pig, birds; now we have a dog as well as a cat, and a pair of rats once more. I volunteer for our county shelter, walking dogs. We moved here from L.A. in the summer of 2003. We have built more painting, office and workshop space here, and hope to remodel some existing studio space. My husband and I both do some woodwork and carpentry as well as art, music, and other things. When we met, thirteen years ago, we had competing tool collections. (He was leading in power tools, except for MY cordless drill.) We met in Angel City Chorale in Los Angeles: Paul a bass, me a soprano. I do animal portraits nationwide, on commission. My own website is still waiting for me to set it up; I have a Painting a Day blog, and pages on another art site. I want to move more intensively into my personal painting work (a mix of figurative work, especially animals, with abstract expressionism, surreal elements, and dream imagery), and to work on all my areas of art more consistently. What else would you like to know?

hanging out with goats, horses, cows or chickens (among others); my grandkids; other people's grandkids; trees, beautiful gardens, interesting plants; music; writing; clear space & simplicity (need much more of); PNDC (Powerful Non-Defensive Communication); Perelandra processes

clutter (have too much of); conflict without clarity and understanding

hand needlework: embroidery, applique, patchwork, quilting, needlepoint, tatting; gardening; singing and music; languages; learning PNDC, and talking to people; astrology; working in partnership with nature

Hey, Fearless, Gerry, Redd and Melissa - thanks so much. Fearless, that sounds like a good entry point for returning to painting - get into the studio, and just sweep. Pick up a broom, not a paintbrush - or something... Yeah! No, it doesn't just sound like a good idea, I know it is one.

Thanks for your appreciative comments!

Eileen,

Great work! Thanks for your nice words about my art. What was meant about "sweeping out your studio" is that I was away from painting and needed to get back to it, he suggested I spend some time in my studio --doing something common--like sweeping it out or cleaning it. It worked! It got me back on the right path.

Hey, S.! I know my pieces are mostly watercolor, here - if I could pick more than one area for myself I would, but since I couldn't, I picked the one I most WANT to be doing. At the same time, my recent oils are almost all portraits, and on the other hand, my direction of preference is into the surreal, especially what I call, for lack of a better term, Abstract Expressionist Dream Surreal - like Goat Squad.

I'll put some of the portraits on, and soon, a new horse painting... I'm just starting to move back into the AbEx Dream Surreal stuff.

And thanks for the compliments! I enjoy titling as much as painting, I sometimes think.

Thanks for your comment on my site.  Your pieces are intriguing, you have your own title. I'd like to see something you've painted more recently. It says you're an oil painter but these are mostly watercolor.   What else do you do?
