I am a retired commercial Tuna/Crab boat captain. I have happily spent more time on the water than I have on land. I have painted the ocean all of my adult life and now that I have retired from a life at sea, I am painting full time out of my studio here in Montana. I also am an Official U.S. Coast Guard Artist. As well, I am president of the International Society of Marine Artists. I have been president for the last five years and enjoy working with our members from all over the world. If any of you would like more information about our society please visit our web site http://www.ismpart.com

The ocean, schooners, tallships, good art, good food, soft music, happy people and blue sky.

Grumpy people, loud music, rude language.

Tallships, ship modeling and wood working.

I like Montana.  My family came from the Flathead and Glacier Park areas.  I enjoy living in warm Tucson, Arizona.  No snow and lots of sun.  I'm surprised you don't live in Seattle or by the ocean after seeing your artwork.   - Ruthy

Thanks for your comment.  Like the "Sea Captain", you would be an interesting person to paint.   The love of the sea shows in your beautiful painting.  - Ruthy

Thanks for the kind words and for visiting my website. :)  I grew up on lake erie and spent most of my free time just watching the water and dreaming.  Your last posted painting reminds me of it so much - I can't say how beautiful it is to me!

Thanks for the good words. I love the ocean more than anything, like you, though I live inland. Did scrimshaw before I painted.

Sorry, I meant to say title, not title, it's late and I'm getting a little loopy.

Thank you so much. Coming from you I really take it as a compliment. You have a wonderful & unique title. I particularly like the one with 3 boats together on the 2n page.

Dear Dave,

What wonderful paintings of the sea and boats. One can take a deep breath and inhale the essence of the salty brine from them. Wondering how you are liking Montana, though rich in scenery of a different type and  hope you get down to the sea again.

Thank you for visiting my blog recently and for your recommendation of M. Graham Walnut oil based oil paints. I will certainly try a tube. I am a beginner. After 20 years of painting, I'll still be a beginner.

I sure hope you spend some time writing your memoirs as you most certainly have lots of fascinating stories.

I have to share with you, I sold my first painting yesterday.  I am so excited to have a piece of me beginning out on a journey on its own.  It is just so cool.  Thanks for being so supportive and kind to me as I get started.

Thanks for noticing the new work. Nope, the move has yet to happen (April 7).  I still have to work just as I still have to breathe.  How are you lately?  Anything new?   me
