I always have music playing while I am painting. I listen to everything from Celtic harps to Hard Rock depending on my mood and the tone of the piece on my easel.

Almost anything... from technical manuals to pulp fiction. Reading is such an amazing way to expand your paradigm and stretch the imagination.

Images, objects, and notions that appeal to me on a personal level inspire my artwork. It is this visceral affect that I attempt to capture on canvas.

Regardless of subject, as an artist, I would be hard tasked not to leave a distinct impression of myself in every piece that I produce, making each work a virtual self-portrait.

I am self-taught and find that I actually enjoy the act of painting just as much, if not more than the work that is produced from my efforts. Personally I see painting as cathartic and believe it offers a healthy and imaginative escape from the daily grind while creating a lasting vision of the emotions and thoughts I am experiencing at the time.

Laughing with friends. Good conversations over coffee. Getting lost in my studio and losing all since of time and place.

Rudeness, bigotry, ignorance, and negativity.

Painting, reading, and music.

Thnks for your nice comments DC.  I really strive to feel the energy of a place or person.  I know it sounds rather new age, but i am looking for the spirit, the fun and emotions that flow through the subject and onto the canvas.

thanks for the comment!   Yes, it is 4 separate canvases.  This was for a commission piece.  The collctor actually has them hanging in a horizontal row.  Welcome to the forum!  A lot of great people here, and good info!

I do like your art work.  It is much different than mine, but very unique and you are more  creative than I am.
