Rock'n'Roll. I worked in the music industry from 1964-1983. I did the visas for the Beatles and
Rolling Stones. I love it and feel connected to it.
Also, classical, jazz and Flamenco.

Biographies on artists. As a personal essay writer I love to read about the creative process and how people live and work. One of my favorites is "Night Studio" by Musa Maya about her father, Philip Guston.
Books on old New York, e.g. E.B White's "Here is New York."

2001 Space Odyssey, Apocalypse Now and Wim Wender's Wings of Desire. In each of these films getting to the truth and a new experience is what attracts me to the narrative.

I'm a native New Yorker. I grew up along side the Third Avenue El train during the 1950s in an old tenement building. I write essays on NY and art.
My passion is Spain and we maintain a home base in Alicante on the Mediterranean. All my paintings are a result of the feelings, memories I have for experienced since 1970.
I have written for Art Calendar in Jan.2004 and October 2005. Kim Hall featured an article in Jan.2008 on my work shown on OvationTV.
I have taught at NYU as an adjunct associate professor of arts since 1995 in the degree division of SCPS.

Looking forward to life each day. Surrounding myself with enthusiastic people who have humility, passion and kindness.
Painting in the studio, writing and teaching at NYU.
Relaxing and painting on the Mediterranean with my artist/husband, John Ferdico
Looking forward to the weekends with John and the meals we cook.

People who are full of themselves and selfish.
It upsets me to see people waste time. Life is too precious to let things go. In my teaching I try to bring out the best in people and let them see what they have inside. Just go for it, don't make fear and insecurity hold you back.

Photography. My interest started as a child growing up in New York City. By the time I took my first trip to Europe in 1969 I was hooked.

Thanks for the blog comment.  Funny, I just got home from work, and all I could think about is that I have to be back in there at 8am.

Hey Diane!  Thanks for the compliments about my Coney Is. photos & blog.  My family are all from NY, too (1/2 from Brooklyn near Coney), but I didn't start hanging out at CI until several years ago when I discovered the Mermaid Parade.  This is a unique, special place that SHOULD be preserved.  Sadly, many corporate heads don't seem to agree.  Time will tell....  Anyway, I'm off to Budapest today to do more photography.  More to post when I return.

Be well!

Lauren

Hi Diane-  The young girls in my portraits are daughters of friends of mine.  One is a "miracle girl" in a sense that some of her brothers and sisters didn't make it and died because of a heart defect while they were in utero or shortly after they were born. She lived, and she now has a brother and a new baby sister.  It is a bittersweet story behind the painting. Her big brown eyes are so sweet.  We were babysitting her and she was eating a cookie, when she looked up at me with those eyes and I caught the image.  Just had to paint her.

Well, I had better get offline before I get even more addicted - I am working on my portfolio, website, and a new series so I had better say-TaTa for now!     Deb
