I just got back from Elgin, IL. My Aunt and Uncle live up there near Chicago. My Aunt took up two of my pieces of art to a photo contest in Bloomingdale, IL. One was accepted. I really didnt think they would even accept it because it was a photo-manipulation. Most of the time photo contests strictly allow only photos with no manipulation other than contrast changes. Anyway, on Friday the 25th they had the opening reception and my family headed up to stay the weekend with my Aunt and Uncle. We all walked into the front door and there was my picture with a ribbon on it. i still do not know what i felt. i suppose just shock at first, just seeing a ribbon on it. I didnt know what the ribbon meant. We all walked up closer, everyone excited, and looked to see what it said. "Honorable Mention" everyone started to get even more excited I just stood there with a smile a bit dumbstruck. I have received a Honorable Mention before, but not in such a nice area were the art is all beautiful and nothing bad could be said about any piece. I never expect to win anything. I dont think much of my art work, I always think it could be better. My father said, "Every show you have been in you have won something." This is something i would never say. I am always expecting not to get something and just to be happy to be in the show. I stood there smiling looking at the other ribbons around me, red, blue, yellow and white. I remembered my time of being a competitive swimmer and collecting all these colors of ribbons. Now i stand here collecting ribbons of the same color but for art. I thought it to be pretty funny. My father used to get goose bumps when i swam a good race, now he is telling me he was getting goose bumps standing there watching me win an award for my art work. Sounds silly though. He is so proud of me when he gets to go to my shows and gloats about my work to people around him. It makes me laugh. But it makes me happy to know that i have impressed my father a bit in my life. So I had a pretty good weekend near Chicago. I hope to show more of my art work up there soon.

Great work! I love hearing success stories. Your prize is well deserved and you should use that as a motivator! Success should always be enjoyed! Again, great work! David
