I am having a hard time trying to stay focused lately. About six weeks ago, my father took a fall and fractured his skull and has been in the hospital.

 If I make it out to my studio I can escape from reality and forget about life for a whil e. The  getting out there is the challange. I am having  hard time getting out there. Any suggestions?                     &nb sp;                         &nb sp;

my heart goes out to you and your dad.  wish you both a good recovery.

in the meantime,,,,keep a sketchbook/journal with you all the time.

i write alot in mine..but i also sketch, plan, design in it....

i carry it with me all the time. it was very helpful when i took care of my parents in their final days.

it helps me find those few precious moments of reflection and renewal all at the same time...

pencil, colorpencils and watercolor pencils, sharpies, glue stick ....

you can collage found objects of the day and use as a start or jumping point...

happy creating:)

I'm sorry to here about your Dad. I wish him a full recovery.

To add to what Alston and Hallie stated, time in the studio is great for decompressing and finding peace in your psyche. I find the best way to "get out there" is to set aside a few minutes each day to do just that. If I give myself 5 minutes I usually find myself taking 20. If I give myself 20 minutes I may find myself still going after an hour. It's all about setting that time aside and not letting ANY distractions prohibit you from taking it.

Your work is excellent. I especially like the rich color in your two most recent fish pieces. What is your medium...is it colored pencil?

Keep the faith and get into that studio.

Since your bio says you took "Saturday morning art classes" I would guess your father encouraged your interest in art.  If he knew how you felt, he'd probably tell you to "get out to the studio."

Stick with it; being creative helps in times like this.  Hope your father recovers soon.

I am so sorry to hear about your father, and hope he will have a good recovery.In the mean time perhaps if you think in terms of your time in the studio as a time to refresh yourself so that you can be more positive for your father when you see him.It is so difficult when something like this happens. My mother was paralized from an auto accident and so I know the depth of sorrow and concern you must be going through.

Very best to both you and your father
