I've been working since New Year's on a collection of paintings begun in Arizona last October. Each time I get ready to submit my work to a gallery, I back out. The old "not good enough" monster haunts me. So, I go back and rework and rework and continue to "crawfish". When does one finally believe in one's self?

I think you just have to jump in there.  What do you have to loose.  I did and I'm so grateful that I did.  It was a gallery that I've always gone into and thought "gee if only".  They were accepting work for judging and I had them ready and thought "here goes"  - why not.   The worst thing that can happen is them saying no.  But they said yes and have sold 6 of mine.  Now it is a dream realized and I'm so happy about it.  And it has motivated me to try even more.  So - do it.  The time is now.

I know all about this!!  S.E. Bland, you just got to take the chance and go for it!!  Us artists have to have a thick skin. acceptance or rejection, either way you have to try.  I have some art friends that can't take people saying negative things about their work.  One of them quit after he got negative feedback on his art.  Its just one persons opinion.  For one person not liking your art, theres probably five that do!!!  Sometimes people can be harsh, but also give you constructive advice to make your work better. You need to like your work and others will too!
