Today I finally decided to join ArtScuttleButt.  I learned about it quite a while back in ArtCalendar.  I thought to myself, what am I waiting for?  I guess I have felt disconnected from the art world for a while now.  I have not been in a show in a long time.  I have been coming up with a number of excuses but I know it comes down to fear.  I threw myself deeply into my new series and have been struggling with it's merit.  I have been scared to show them to anyone, scared of what other people think.  I don't know why.  But here I am reaching out, and trying to connect with other artists.  So fellow artists...here I am... Be gentle.

Welcome, Mark. I'm new here too. And am struggling right now too with the merit...and with my direction...well you know the drill. I've found that it making art is really like a roller coaster ride. The lows are always followed by the highs. Connecting with other artists lets us know we are not alone in our feelings and struggles. And if this is your new series (in your gallery) keep going with it. You've got something to say!

Mark,

I too felt as you did until I read that Manet once said that approaching a blank canvas was like jumping into the ocean without a life preserver.  I thought, "Well, if he was scared, why should I think something is wrong if it happens to me?"  It is part of the process of creating.  We are all scared but manifest it in different ways.  I force myself to work when I feel that need to avoid my canvas.  It always pays off.  Good Luck!!

Congrats, you are now officially connected with plenty of other scared, scarred, troubled, confused, frustrated artists : )
